HGTV Coming To Jacksonville FL

HGTV is going to build their first Smart Home at Paradise Key in Jacksonville Beach.

Paradise Key is a South Beach community, built in the Coastal style and located east of A1A. Smart Homes have energy saving features and advanced technology.

Features include:
- many of the appliances and devices will be connected
- energy and systems of the home will be monitored by the owner, including security, heating and cooling, lighting and electronics.
- everything can be monitored from your smart device.

Jack Thomasson, an HGTV house planner, said in a news release, "that the features and functionality of this home are like nothing we've ever offered in HGTV home giveways, and set the standard for creative spaces and ways that consumers can use emerging technology to improve their homes."

The builder is well-known local builder Glenn Layton Homes, based out of Ponte Vedra, and the architect is Mike Stauffer from Jacksonville. Check out the Jacksonville Business Journal link above to watch a video explaining more about the

The home will be about 2,400 sq. ft. and have more than 1,000 sq. ft. of covered porches, decks and pool. Local labor and materials will be used (hooray!)

The owner of this home will never have to wonder if they locked the door, turned off or on the lights or turned down the air conditioner. It's all done on their smart phone!

Talk about panic mode if you lose your smart phone.  It's one thing to lose your contacts and calendar, quite another to lose the ability to get into your home.  The more dependent we become on one device to do so much, the scarier the idea of losing it or it breaking becomes.
