donnaTwo weeks ago I had the pleasure of sharing sushi with Donna Harris, ARs top real estate blogger in Texas. I often enjoy her passion and energy on her blog and she is the same dynamo in person. Lunch was great and it was fun to convert an on-line acquaintance to a face-to-face industry partner.

After our lunch it really made me wonder why more people in the Dallas real estate and mortgage business aren't involved in Active Rain. Both Donna and I have people we invited to join AR who either never joined or never even got their profile setup.

What does that say about you as a professional to not even setup a profile? If a consumer went on-line and found your profile what would that say about you?

Nonetheless, I'm still at a loss to understand why people visit AR and don't want to get involved. There are plenty of different personality types here. We have members from all over the country, in all different professions. And look at the opportunity to get internet exposure! Whether you care about blog rankings, there's value to the geographical ratings. Right now, Dallas County has 99 members and 5th place is 3,549 points! I'm pretty sure that by creating my profile, linking Active Rain to my other sites and writing 5 blog posts I was at or near that point total. How could someone join and NOT see the potential?

Florida has 2,111 members in ActiveRain and Broward County is the largest with 285 members. and you don't even need 10,000 points to be in the top 10. Wyoming is the other end of the spectrum. Want the top spot? It'll only take you 1,708 points to be the top blogger in the state. Don't you get 1,707 points just for reading and commenting on Bryan Tutas' posts for what...1 week? (25 points x 10 per day x 7 days = 1,750...I know I'm a math geek).sushi

So while Donna and I enjoyed our cajun rolls at BlueFish, we will continue to blog and post and post and blog. We'll continue to scratch our heads wondering why so many of our peers just don't get it.

Ken, you guys had SUSHI and you DIDN'T invite ME???? What's up with that?

I totally agree. It defies all logic. I've invited a hundred or so people to AR, and only a few have joined!

Hey, Rich, they didn't invite me either. And my experience is the same with people I've invited. Head scratchingly curious.

1) We didn't invite you guys because I wanted Donna to myself....

2) Mike....you are so welcome to attend any sushi meeting...we can get you indoctrinated!

3) Rob - yes I lend in all 50 states...do I actually have to go to PA?

4) I'm still not sure why people don't leap on the AR community but glad it isn't just me.

Yes, Lunch was great! But, I must preface with saying that I don't actually eat SUSHI!  I was there for the tempura and the cucumber roll!!  I'm not a fish person, though I did have a little calamari (sp?).  It was still cooked so still not sushi!

Ken, it was great meeting you in person.  The biggest plus was that he actually looks like his picture!  So many people I meet don't look anything like their picture and that's just wrong.

By the way, I've invited over 150 people, and only about 35 have accepted the invite.  It's beyond me, but more leads for me when people are searching in Dallas so I'm not too worried about it!!

I'm looking forward to working with Ken on future deals!

Donna, I'm not a "FIST" person either...hehe. Actually, I personally don't care for fish per se. Cooked fish just tastes "fishy" to me. Sushi has its own unique flavor. Much of it doesn't taste like fish. Tempura and a cucumber makki is the safe way out!  P.S. Calamari...it's the anal retentive spell check policeman in me!

Thanks for the corrections, Rich... I'm multi-tasking and my typing isn't that great when my brain is on fast forward and my fingers are lagging behind.

"By the way, I've invited over 150 people, and only about 35 have accepted the invite."

Donna, I looked at those figures, did the math, and realized that you're pretty close to the old 80/20 rule that seems to apply to most human endeavors, so you're right on target!
