Nerdin Gardens Revisited August 2012 ~ Much to be thankful for!
Zucchini, crook neck squash, lettuce and cucumbers galore as we pick daily from the garden. Summer fresh salads have been an almost daily addition to our meals.
The sunflowers standing high above all else resemble sentries standing at attention looking about. Their bright faces bring nature's light into the darkest corners of every space.
The basil, oregano, thyme, onion chives, garlic, sage, chili peppers, okra, cabbage, strawberries, asparagus, have all made their way into our cooking or meal preparation. The artichokes were tender and also decorative when their pods boasted bright purple spiky do's!
Green beans, snow peas, red potatoes, eggplant, bell peppers and purple cabbage have been the highlight of this above ground raised bed. The Marigolds act as a natural deterent against bug invasions plus are a beauitful splash of color here and there throughout the entire garden.
The grapes and muscadines are ripe for picking and we are willing to share a small amount with the birds but will make grape jam with the majority of the sweet, little morsels!
This is a day's harvest that will continue to serve us well throughout the summer and into the winter months. So far we have dehydrated Roma tomatoes, made Zucchini Relish, canned Apricot and Peach Jelly with plans for many other vegetables from the garden. We will be putting up beets and carrots as they come to fruition.
We are indeed thankful every day as we continue to reap the gifts of our garden. The best to you all from Nerdin Gardens and southern Utah!
