I may be forced to turn in my Man Card for blogging about Pinterest, but I have actually had an account for quite some time, maybe even a year. I don't remember, because once I registered to check it out, I didn't get it and left it alone.
Every so often, I'd get an email telling me someone else was following me. In all, 200 people followed me before I pinned anything. I got an idea for a board once, but it required a mobile app to work, and astonishingly, when I looked for it on the Android Market, now known as Google Play, there was no app.
No app until now- I logged onto Pinterest's mobile site earlier this week and it prompted me to download the app. I happily did. The most active board I have is Cool Vanity Plates I see when I am out driving.
I know, not sexy shoes or whatever some are using to make a gazillion dollars in real estate on Pinterest. I'm the last guy who knows a real estate application, believe me. But I am a huge believer in engagement, and with a mobile app that can be used when I am out in the field as broker, I can do so now far more effectively. Where it goes from there is yet to be determined. But good will come of it.
About the board: I have a fairly large repository of these vanity plate photos I took myself over the years (and miles), and aside from posting a few in blogs, they have hibernated on my disc. This will be my way of sharing them. I have a bunch of default boards that remain empty, and I have some plans for other ones, all of which will be themed on cool stuff I see in my travels.
Being able to snap and share in 30 seconds thanks to the mobile app makes all the difference.
And for those of you who are snickering at a 45 year old man pinning stuff on a Pinterest board, laugh it up. All good marketing starts with engagement, and when I make my first deal off this platform I'll laugh myself- all the way to the bank.
