There Are No Secrets In Real Estate...Sharing Shows Confidence

Nothing in real estate is a secret.  If one wants to know how to execute a form of marketing, there are many sources to find many versions.  Some agents are very secretive.  They prepare marketing materials and keep them out of view from other agents.

If one prepares a road map of instruction for marketing and distributes that road map to 100 agents, if 2 or 3 show sincere interest, that’s a good number.  Of the 2 or 3, one might go forth and attempt to use the plan.  The chance of that agent staying the course will be a very small percentage.  It will be a long shot, for sure.

No two agents work alike.  Even if two agents have the same work ethic, the end results will be very different.  The ideal plan is to make note of as many different forms of marketing, and "prepare one that fits you for your marketplace and your focus."  Pick and choose the best qualities from many samples prepared by successful agents, and prepare a product that works for you.

This could be a postcard, a flyer, a brochure or any marketing material.  Do a thorough search of what others use in other parts of the country and create your own style.  There are no secrets in real estate.  For those who think they do it the best, there’s always someone out there who will do it better!!

So true Barbara, an author once told me that all the books have been written but no reads the same books that is why the titles are all different. Not sure what that mean't.

But here is another, a trainer once told me that of the 100 or so people in the room that day 90 would claim to believe what he said, 20 would take notes and attempt to start but would lose interest by the time they got home, 4 would continue for a week and quit, one if he was lucky would make it a success but 99 or more would sign back up for the class in a year and not know they had been to it before and that is why he makes so much money. Happy Posting and make this your BEST day ever.

I recently moved to a brokerage where the spirit of sharing is everywhere.  And you are so right...no one does it the same and we all get better at what we do.

It is wonderful to share and help each other out.  You do it for us all the time.  It is a great feeling when you can share something that helps someone else.

Being open to what works for you is a great way to build synergy and good will, I agree that  local market dynamics combined with our own unique perspectives will always deliver unique results even if we are using the same type of technique.

I have been working hard for a long time to create innovative marketing materials ranging from flyers to books and videos.  If I put those out in the public to drive leads, any agent can see them.  To have someone copy them would be, to me, a sincere form of flattery.  That said, I'll often give out tips and train people on what I do, only to see maybe 1% actually use them.

Great point of view Barbara on sharing and spot on.  It is great to share an idea that someone else might amend to work for them with a few adjustments for their personality.  But, as you say it is a very small percentage that acturally put many great ideas to work for them due to time constraints, etc.  You and many others here in "The Rain" offer a lot of great ideas.  Thanks and have a great weekend.

Barbara~ I completely agree, however when 2 agents are in the same "backyard" there's much less sharing that occurs.  That's the beauty of AR.  No one feels threatened!

Eileen....."Being open to what works for you is a great way to build synergy and good will"  ..... how very true.....

Bryan.....there are no secrets in real estate....

Sue.... only a very small percentage use what they have available to them....

Donna..... I have many here on AR who are my competitors.... I share openly....I've watched as some put those methods to use and then they stop.... it takes consistent marketing to make a method work..... and that's where people fail.... they do it a few times and stop.... my posts are read by MANY  agents from other offices in my town....they have told me they read my posts.... that's incentive for me to pile it on thickly.... I tell it all.... I want them to know what I do.... it's like delivering a brochure to a potential seller and then taking it back at the end of the appointment....I want others to see it.... if they can trump it, they deserve the listing.

Barbara, I have had great results with my monthly newsletters.  I have tried to help and encourage other agents in my office to do one too.  I have even provided them with my newsletter template and showed them how to change my name to theirs, etc.  I did not provide the actual content but figured they could do that themselves as they need to make it unique to themselves.  I don't think a single person has done a newsletter yet.  Anything that takes time and effort only the committed will do.  Barbara, I love how you share so openly here on ActiveRain.  Thank you!

Good points! I think another reason some agents act so secretive is they do not want others to know they do not have a solid plan.

Barbara, Prior to opening my own brokerage, I've worked for 4 other companies and I could honestly say none of them welcomed sharing, everything was a top secret. AR is probably the only platform I know of where Realtors are open with each other.

Hi Beth....I think the attitude of an office always starts at the top..... if the broker/owner/manager is not open with teaching and sharing, the agents will follow suit.... every office I've ever managed promoted sharing and helping.... we were always the top office in the area and within the franchise area.... century 21 is the franchise I managed for many years.... we were open within the office everything and if someone couldn't be trusted, they were out....

Sharing not only proves confidence, but it helps more houses get sold. More houses sold is good for everyone. All boats rise when the water level is increased.

Barbara: AR is a terrific example of sharing. I was told about it a couple of years before I actually looked into it. Telling other agents, even my area, doesn't diminish the contacts that I have established. And no one writes blogs the way I do.
