20 Comments on Americana #23 - Working For The US Post Office For 122 Years
Now that's one cool and heavy duty mail box Karen. I don't recall them ..... they were just a little before the time my memory bank kicked in.
John I'm glad I was able to show you one
Boy, does that picture take me back many years. As a kid, I remember dropping letters in a similar looking mailbox. In fact, I remember when they were painted olive green. It wasn't until Dwight Eisenhower became president that it changed. He added the words, "Under God" to the pledge of allegiance, and had our mailboxes changed from olive color to red, white and blue!
Karen, what a fun bit of the past. I love the image and, as always, the background information you take the time to research and share with us. What FUN!!!!!
Hi Karen,
This is a very interesting article. I admire all the local history that you write about your local community, also something to learn from your post. Have a fabulous weekend!
Hi Karen: I just love these glimpses of Americana! This is such a beautiful box, it ought to be in a museum--or maybe decorating my home. Thanks for sharing the picture. Julissa
Interesting mail box history. Some of these boxes must be collector items that would do well at auction. I wonder if many are stolen.
Have a most productive week.
Enjoy the colors of autumn with your camera in hand.

Leilani A museum is about the only place you'll find them
Karen,
I remember these about town years ago. This one could use some paint. :)
