(look for a whole bunch of reviews...catching up with AR)

The Coen Brothers have perfected something I thought not possible. They can have you gripping your armrest for two hours, yet leave you with very little impression that anything ever happened. You may not even remember you've been to a movie. What the Coens do in No Country for Old Men--and I want to tread carefully as these cinematic siblings are responsible for one of the greatest movies ever in The Big Lebowski--is create a Curiosity Shoppe of grotesque characters and brutal murders. You become absolutely entranced by these vulgarities, these gnarled turns from normal. In No Country you get a creepy, obsessed killer in Spaniard Javier Bardem's "Chigurh," his undying pursuit of Josh Brolin's dumb luck redneck, and all the carnie freaks along the way. For a while you might be tempted to count the bodies. Good luck. You'll be teetering on the edge of suspense until Tommy Lee Jones waxes philosophical. He verbalizes his thoughts for a good, long time...and then it's all over. The Coens whisk you out of their Curio without a single souvenir to show for it.

This adaptation of a Cormac McCarthy book comes with a pretty basic premise. Brolin stumbles across the bloody aftermath of a drug deal gone bad and takes off with a suitcase full of money. The big, bad guy chases after him. It's practically Simon & Simon fare. Leave it to the Coen brother's to twist into a crazy dream. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Dreams are cool while they happen, but so easy to forget.

Beware: I can already hear you bitching about the ending.

Who Will Like This: I think I recall it being a nice break from the norm. I was never restless, and always quite intrigued.

Secret to Better Enjoyment: A new, quieter way to kill people.

He's great in No Country...but I think Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood is the lead dog right now.
