Last Sunday we were challenged by our Priest to think about who we admire. Who has greatly affected the who you have become?
Since I am quickly approaching my 35th year in Real estate, I look back gratefully to my very first sponsoring Broker.
She ran a small office in River Oaks (very upscale Houston). It was on the fringe of the most affluent area in the greater Houston area.
There were only ten agents. No one had a desk. We each had a drawer in one of the desks in the main office.
We were encouraged to spend time farming neighborhoods, and belonging to local civic clubs. No one spent much time in the office except to perform their share of floor duty.
Each of us had a working partner. This was an agent who had more tenure than we did. It was someone we could go to for input. It was also someone we were required to go to before we submitted an offer to a seller. There was no excuse for errors! Two heads are always better than one. This also allowed for clear thinking even when in the excitement of writing an offer.
There were always lots of clients and customers to go around. There was no envy or jealousy.
If we had listings that required accompaniment, if we could not be located, an agent would go for us. The agent would be paid a fee from the commission when we had a successful closing.
Everyone in the office knew all the listings well enough to show them at a few minutes notice.
We were a sisterhood. We worked hard to make everyone look good.
The love in that office was obvious and we were all very successful. That success was due to the basic rules and attitude practiced by that Broker.
No office since that one ever held a candle to the education or production achieved .
I will always be grateful for my first few years working with this gracious learned lady.
