91 Comments on Rodney Dangerfield and "AS IS": two words that get NO RESPECT!
Judi, yes the house did close, and Sharon and I removed some more carpet in another one of her listings over Labor Day weekend. It does take time to cope with tragedies, and I'm not even sure that can be done without God's peace that passes all understanding. Thanks for your concern!!!
Sorry to hear about the sad news.
Congratulations on keeping your sale going forward and on the discovery of those amazing wood floors. W-O-W! You 2 certainly do what it takes to get homes sold and take care of your clients! BRAVO!
Have an outstanding week as we celebrate the beginning of autumn.
Bruce, I was going to comment how wonderful those wood floors look that were hidden underneath that carpet...but after reading about your principal burying his wife on their wedding anniversary and the poor girl that did not survive, it puts things into perspective. Thanks for reminding us of that. :)

Maya,
Sharon just received a thank you card in the mail yesterday from the sellers, and that is something that brightens your day-a very satisfied and happy client!!!
Roy, the Autumn season is most welcome after the intense heat of this summer in the Lafayette area!
I had a client that was angry because the buyer, after inspections, asked for repairs. She said "I sold it AS IS."-- True, and they bought it based on how you described your AS IS on the seller's disclosure. YIKES!
Joni, that's when we have to keep focused and look at the big picture. Sometimes the negotiations over price are the EASY part of a transaction; the negotiations over the inspection can be a real challenge especially over the meaning of AS IS!
Wow what a beautiful floor under that carpet! Congrats to you for doing the best you could for your client. Too bad all Realtors aren't like you!!
Debra, Sharon received a beautiful THANK YOU note loaded with gift cards by the owner which expressed her great appreciation for all the extra effort that Sharon put in to get her house sold.
As I was reading this post I had my fingers crossed it was Featured...so glad to see the gold star...well deserved! LOVE the transformation....very impressive that you were willing to tackle the work when the seller wasn't willing to.
Sharon, thanks for your kind words! The seller lived over two hours away and just could not make it back to Lafayette because of her work schedule and the time involved. Sharon is always willing to do what it takes for her sellers to get the job done so we just blocked out some time and did what it took to keep the transaction moving forward. Win-win for all involved!
Bruce - we only do AS IS contracts, but we are in a second home vacaton market, and no financing is usually involved at all. Workd for us, and for others, as this is a standard here with condos to use As Is
You ended up the post with such a statements, that, be I were religious, I would have said "Amen", but I will still say it.
Jon, it sure makes things easy when things are truly AS IS and when the transaction is cash!
It sure brings new meaning to the end of my post after the horrible events that just happened in Connecticut.
God does reveal Himself to us in unique ways and connection to organized religion is NOT a prerequisite, Jon. One of the most interesting stories of a SAUL OF TARSUS conversion I ever heard in person was former atheist General Borizov, the Deputy Commander of the Soviet Forces in Afghanistan during the 1980's, who was know to the CIA as "GENERAL WAR". The CIA put a price on his head of $100,000 in gold, and he found Christ when God saved him from certain death in a helicopter that was shot down by Afghan guerrilla forces in the mountain passes. Amazing story of a life turned around!
Hug your grandchildren and give them an extra measure of your love, Jon! We just never know!
Bruce,
I was enjoying your post until I heard the tragic news.
We should never take anyone for granted.
Life is a gift.
As Is... well that's just the way life is.
Patricia, we had another scare this past week as one of our faculty members almost lost a spouse to heart failure. Amazing turnaround though and on to recovery! Thank God!!! Yes, life is a gift and may we never take it for granted.
Bruce, sad about your friends. Just makes us realize that we need to appreciate everyone we know and to let them know it!
Kudos to you and your wife for taking action and removing that ugly old carpet to show off the beautiful wood flooring. I hope the owners appreciate her!
... and appreciate you too!
Lisa,
Sharon really works hard with her sellers and we do everything that we can to help them move forward with the sale of their house! Removing some carpet is a very small thing compared to the larger picture of LIFE and how families are impacted daily by a serious illness or loss of a loved one!
