Who's running your day?

Boy is this saying that Jack featured today applicable to real estate. One of the things that I see a lot (and unfortunately fall into more often that I’d like to admit) are agents who come into the office and just sit there, waiting for something to happen that they can react to. That’s especially the case with new agents doing floor time. Many will just putz around reading emails or looking at the latest gossip sites to see what their favorite bands or stars have been up to lately.

businessmanNow, I will admit that if you’re doing floor you are somewhat in a passive, reactive mode – waiting for that floor call or the walk-in customer. At the same time, there is the time that you are spending while sitting there. I think today’s quote basically says that you need to have a plan to use that time in some productive way. Maybe you make calls – cold calls, calls to FSBO’s or calls to expired listings. Maybe you use it to design your next postcard mailing or to update your SOI mailing list. Maybe you do some research in the MLS to update yourself on the market. Maybe you sign on to ActiveRain and do a blog post. The point is to have something productive to do – to run your day, rather than letting it run you.

So, stop for a moment and think. Are you running your day today or are you just sitting there letting it run you?
