Homemade Laundry Soap
Can't wait to try this. What a great house warming gift! Maybe with a laundry basket and some towels! I hope this will work good with a front loader too!
Homemade Laundry Soap
A couple of weeks ago, I received a wonderful gift. It was a jar of homemade laundry soap. I love using homemade products, especially if I can save money or a little bit of the earth!
Well, I've been using this soap for 2 weeks (that means 15 loads of laundry), and I love it. Not only does it work well, but my clothes smell fantastic and are much softer than before.
Using the recipe that came with the gift, It cost me $17.00 to make a 10 month supply of Laundry Soap.
So, here is the recipe and the instructions:
- 4 lb box of Borax
- Large box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda
- Large box of Arm & Hammer Washing Powder
- 1 jar of Oxy Clean Granules
- 2 bars of Fels-naptha Soap
- 2 bars of bath soap (any scent you like). I used 2 different types to add color to the soap and make it pretty :-)
All of the ingredients can be found on the Laundry aisle at your local grocery store (except the bath soap).
To make the soap, you will need a large container to mix it in. I used a five gallon bucket lined with a trash bag. You will need to grate the soap with a cheese grater, and then mix all of the items in the bucket really well. Viola.... You have laundry soap. I filled my laundry soap container with enough soap to clean 100 loads of laundry( it only takes 1 tablespoon per load)! The remainder went into smaller containers to give as gifts (along with the recipe).
I figure I will save about $100 per year, and keep dozens of those large plastic bottles out of the landfill!
