Or at least that is what some people tell me.  I personally take my own canvas bags when I go shopping.  Some were made out of some horrible canvas drapes that hung in a decrepit house that I rented in college.

So, with the recent news that China and now Israel are eliminating plastic bags in those countries and stores like IKEA charging to take bags, what do you think?  I think it is a great idea and that it eliminates a huge amount of unnecessary waste in our country.  I for one am ready to see a charge for the taking of a plastic bag rather than a credit for using my own or maybe both.  How about you?

Now for the other news...  The house cafeteria went green and lobbyists complained.  Apparently we are listening to the vast conspiracy of vegetarians everywhere when we start buying organic food and worrying about whether our eggs come from caged or free range hens.

I use canvas bags as much as possible or reuse paper bags but I have thought about bags with my name for a promo.  I have no idea how expensive they would be.

I think it's great and take my canvas bag with me as often as possible. I read that it takes 1,000 years for a plastic bag to break down in a landfill. It's well worth it to switch to a canvas bag.

I agree Andrew!  Canvas is the way to go.  Before long I'm sure plastic bags will be a thing of the past. Just wondering what I will use to line my bathroom trash cans?   Great point and post.! ; )

Andrew:  I almost died when I learned that plastic bags are better (use less energy to produce - easily recycled) than paper bags!  See: http://www.grist.org/advice/ask/2002/06/04/umbra-grocerybags/   Luckily, our local grocery stores accept plastic bags for recycling at each entrance.  I wish everyone recycled!

After thinking about this mini environmental crisis, I bought these puppies:  http://www.chicobag.com/  They fold inside themselves for easy transport and a set of three weighs almost nothing!  Thanks for the post.  :)

It's a controversy, Washington State is looking at outlawing the plastic bag. Trader Joes has a great canvas bag for $2.
