16 Comments on That's Some Nest we Found in our Yard!
Uh Oh.... Think you guys need to get a pro to get this huge nest down! RUNNNNNNNNN :)
We had a VERY busy gentleman several years ago in our area who raised all types of bees and he would come out and remove hornets nests for homeowners. But yes, it will most likely have to wait until the colder weather.
Rebecca-I have been chased by bees when I got too close to their nest and didn't see it til after the fact. Be careful with them. They do say later evening or early morning when they are still sleeping. Good luck. It is a big one for sure with the potential for a lot of stingin.
I'd find one of those long range wasp sprayers that will shoot 20-25 feet and hit them after dark then I'd run like.... well you know what I mean and I don't run anywhere.
Rebecca: Removal would be a job for my hubby. LOL The worst part is that they can sting over and over...no fun for whomever is trying to get rid of these pests.
Rebecca, good luck, and hope you get the nest tonight when they are less active, and DON'T get stung! Every once in a while we run into them here in Denver while showing homes -- but THAT is a BIG one!
Rebecca - That hornet's nest is darn right frightening! I don't think I've come close to finding anything like it around my own home. We get Honey Bee nests (which can be quite large), and smaller Yellow Jacket nests! But that thing of your's looks like something out of a sci-fi movie:-)
Rebecca, Ugh! We have a similar problem again. I am not sure what type of bee, hornet, wasp they are. A few years ago we had wasps building their nest under the siding. We called a professional to spray in early morning. Guess we will have to pay the price again.
HI Rebecca,
Guess what I use on my wasps and hornets nests? Hairspray works great. Buy a couple of cheap cans of White Rain and wait until almost dark when they are all inside. Then spray the nest really good like drench it almost. A few will fly out and die but most will not survive. Then in the morning a few will come back and spray them and run back inside.
I would have liked to see your husband shoot it with a BB gun!
Rebecca I can assure you I would be reluctant to go in that area until I knew they were gone
Rebecca, Having been "stung" before, I have no reluctance to get rid of them quickly...Get hubby out there now!
I have seen small ones around and my husband always gets rid of them before I freak out! Thanks for the bee info, Rebecca. Good luck with your bees.
Rebecca,
That is a very large nest! If you decide to do something with it, I'd definitely wait until evening!!!
Hey, if you don't bother them, they won't bother you . . . right?!? Their nest is a beautiful architectuarl structure, but sadly, no one likes them in their backyard NIMBY.
I think that my husband and I will both have a can of spray that will shoot 20-25' away. The nest will get it from both sides especially at the entrance. Since I am leaving for Florida tomorrow, he may just have to do it by himself.... unless we try it tonight. Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.
Be careful! This does give you a good blog topic.
Have an outstanding week with your camera in hand.
