Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

The art students at Holy Cross Catholic Academy have teamed up with Center City of Amarillo to create an 18-month calendar that will depict the history of Downtown Amarillo.  The calendars will start with September 2012 and end with February 2014. It is calendars like this that offer a one of a kind perspective of Old Amarillo.

Amarillo, TX History Pictures

You will find featured historic places like the Silver Grill, Rainbow Garden Dance Hall, the old Paramount Theater, Fedway’s, Burger Barrel, Phillips 66 gas station, Levine’s, Amarillo Capitol, Kress and Amarillo Globe-News buildings, and the Herring hotels.  You will also find memorable scenes from the 1960s Peppermint Lane, the 1956 blizzard, the 1940s Amarillo Municipal Auditorium and the 1930s dance marathons.

The historic calendars are the perfect way of retelling stories of families and friends throughout the entire Texas Panhandle area thanks to Kelly garner and Beth Duke.  Kelly planted the seed for the project in 2009 when looking for a new assignment and Beth helped complete the idea after a three-week public showing of the art pieces from the assignment.

Amarillo’s historic calendars can be bought for $15 from any Holy Cross Catholic Academy family member or the school’s office.  You can also purchase a $20 artist-signed calendar, but there is a limited supply so you’ll have to hurry.
