Stage 1 of the USA Pro Cycling Challenege

Stage 1 of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge departs Durango at 10 a.m. today, impacting highways 160, 184 and 145, according to a statement from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

CDOT lists all the anticipated highway impacts of the race by stage online at www.cotrip.org.

The riders will depart from Breckenridge Friday morning for Stage 5 of the race. The start will cause a closure of Highway 9 in both directions from Breckenridge to Fairplay from 10 a.m. to noon. Local traffic will be able to circulate within the closure, but drivers should expect up to 30-minute delays.

The USA Pro Cycling Challenge, now in its second year, is a seven-day road-bike race across Colorado and may be one of the largest spectator events in state history.

Race officials say more than 1 million fans may turn out in person to watch the event around the state.

Riders will cover approximately 700 miles of terrain.

The race concludes Sunday.
