The Pineapple Lily Looks Like A Truly Beautiful Pineapple and is a member of the Lily family and related to the asparagus. They come in a variety of beautiful colors. They are grown from bulbs so can easily be grown in pots for your patio, and everything I read says they are very easy to grow. You can find out more about these lovely plants here.

Also known as Eucomis Comasa, it is a native of South Africa. This one is one of the newer colors.

Pineapple Lily

Pineapple lilies like moisture during the growing season so water it regularly in spring and summer. In cold regions, however, grow it as an annual, bring it indoors and keep warm and dry for the winter. Do not water during winter. If you lift the bulbs, make sure to replant them as early as possible in spring, but after any danger of frost has passed.

The pineapple lily is a great looking plant and I have to tell you that I've never seen one before.

Good luck and success.

Toni - That's a lovely picture, with gorgeous blossoms!  The little tops are similar to that of pineapples.  It kind of reminds of that game, "Which of the following is most like the other."

What a beautiful flower Toni!    My one lily in my yard died this year, and no wonder --- NO WATER!

Toni, just goes to show you what a vast variety of lilies there must be!  This also looks like a bottle brush.  Do you know if they have a fragrance?

Mark - I hadn't seen them before either and had to take the picture

John - they are unusual but not new apparently.

Lou - that seems to be the consensus. :)

Myrl - when the flower tops first appear is when they most resemble the baby pineapples.

Joan - they are lovely, I'm sorry you lost yours.

Kwee - it is beautiful, I hadn't seen them before either.

William - you're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Mona - I checked and couldn't detect one but there were several other flowers around it including a gardenia which may have over-powered it.

Larry & Sheila - thank you, it is unique.

hi Toni,  That does look like a pineapple.  I'm sure it would never survive in Colorado.  I've been enjoy all the cool plants and flowers in California.  there's a plant that looks like this but i think it is called a bottle brush bush.  Very fun!

Wow, Toni,

Thanks for bringing it to my attention, and you are right I love it...Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention.  Little wonder I missed it, since mid June we have working 14 hour days with one weekend off, and another when Ron got sick.  We are almost done with one of our biggest projects, Ron has been working on it mostly, and I am keeping up with everything else..it is good to have a mate on the same team.
