Change your Mind, Change Your Life:  It Takes a Warrior Mindset

Maybe you are like me and there has been a point in your life when you became painfully aware of the need for change.  It might have been when the doctor advised you that if you didn’t lose weight, eat healthier and/or begin an exercise program, your chances of living a long and healthy life would be slim to none.  Or maybe it was when you received a call from the bank that your loan was denied,   you discover your credit score had plummeted or a notice of non-sufficient funds in your bank account comes in the mail.

Suddenly you know – SOMETHING has to change.  The first “something” you must change is your mind.  You may have heard “Change your mind, change your life….”.  Change begins with changing your mind, your mindsets or your habits of thinking.

In his book “The War of Art”,  Steven Pressfield labels the enemy of our success when we are seeking positive change as “Resistance” (with a capital “R”).  Pressfield says, “Most of us have two lives.   The life we live, and the unlived life within us.  Between the two stands Resistance”.

If you have ever made a decision which would, if carried out completely, result in positive changes to your business, your family, your finances, or your physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual health, you have encountered this enemy called “Resistance”.  You might also recognize some other aliases for this  enemy…….

Fear.  Procrastination.  Apathy.  Chaos.  Impossibility.  Insignificance.  Broken promises.

In my own life, changing my mind was not easy.  I had to develop a WARRIOR MINDSET to win the war against  “Resistance” and overcome obstacles and challenges in my life and business.  But what is a warrior mindset?

Breaking the two words apart, a warrior is a person who shows “…..great vigor, courage, or aggressiveness and who has been engaged in warfare……”, while mindset is defined as “……a habitual mental attitude that determines how you will interpret and respond to situations….”.

Therefore, a warrior mindset can be defined as habitually thinking courageously and being fully engaged on a mission with purpose and focus, even in the face of adversity (or warfare).

I believe Pressfield was right, and I think it is something we all know deep in our heart of hearts.  There is an enemy that stands between the life we are living and the successful, unlived life within us – our true destiny.  Stay tuned over the next few weeks on how you can develop a warrior mindset.  I will be sharing some of the “artillery” you can utilize when fighting for success in your life and business.

What about you?  Have you ever encountered the enemy Pressfield labels as “Resistance”?

Hi Louise, you know this post hits home for me! Surviving deployments I have developed quite the warrior attitude and made it through really tough times because of it ... but it doesn't always translate to my business. I have to work on that!

Sharon-love your post on Warrior Mindset!  It should make all of us think about what and why resist change.  Change your mind, change your life is very scary to most of us and Resistance is definitely the reason why.  Keep posting such mind challenging post and you will reach a few of us at a time.

Louise: I love this blog. My "resistance" was doing certain chores. Don't know why some did that to me. Was it so hard? No. Just did not do certain chores that needed to be done. Now? I do them first. Anything I don't want to do that needs to be done, I do them first. Now. Today. Not tomorrow. It really has "freed" me. PS. Bob Crane sent me over.

Hella - Thanks for dropping by!  And "chores" can be a form of distraction from the priorities we need to do FIRST! Great comment!

Louise -  thank you for spelling out an idea that I need to study further. Your summary of Pressfield's work is quite enlightening. I shall be watching for you to develop it further.
