One of my favorite Stagers, Sharon Tara, makes a very good point about empty spaces.  When a buyer enters a room, you want them to take in the whole room.  Just because you own, for example, matching end and coffee tables, doesn't mean they have to be used in the same room.  If that other end table crowds the room, don't use it.

Let your buyers see the whole room rather than have their eyes bounce around from object to object.

New Hampshire Home Stager Advice - Don't Be Afraid Of Empty Spaces

scared manWhether you are selling your house or just want to improve it's appearance for yourself, there's a simple rule to remember....Less is More.

Decorating or Staging your house is not an "all you can stuff in a bag" sale.  If you have too much stuff, too much furniture,  it's distracting.  Your eyes bouncing around the room from item to item will cause uneasiness.

As a professional Home Stager in New Hampshire I've found that most homeowners have a tendancy to crowd rooms.  People feel a need to place furniture in every corner of the room and hang pictures on every wall.   It's too much!  Quality over quantity is the way to go.

Empty space is a good thing.  It's refreshing and relaxing.  It allows you to appreciate the important things in the room.  Each room should have a focal point....it may be the fireplace or the view through the patio doors or a fabulous piece of art.

Each room should have only the furniture you need to live comfortably, arranged around the focal point, with a few accent pieces for color and warmth.

Don't be afraid of having empty spaces.  Once you get used to it, you will really like it!

Many of my clients feel like the walls are "too bare" once I remove what they have hanging.  I tell them to give it a day or two and then see how they feel.  They always end up appreciating the new look.  I've never had a client decide they wanted their stuff put back.

Give it a try.....your home will be more visually appealing and you'll find yourself more relaxed and less stressed.
