Photo(s) of the day .. breathtaking scenery

We just spent a week in the Shenandoah Valley in VA and were simply in awe of the gorgeous scenery and spectacular views ... here's just a little glimpse of what we were so lucky to enjoy.

Unfortunately, we weren't quick enough to snap a picture of the bear we spotted along Skyline Drive but we did get one of the moose that drooled on me. That's a blog for another day however ...

The Shenandoah Valley and George Washington National Forest (the Skyline Dr. is a must while visiting the area) offer spectacular scenery and breathtaking views. They are worth a visit anytime of the year and close enough to the Wash DC & Baltimore Metro areas to enjoy a little get-away.

Active-duty military can get a National Park Pass and receive complimentary admission (including dependents) to the Shenandoah National Park as well as 396 other parks throughout the U.S.

very nice pics! Love VA as that is some really nice country. You dont automatically think mountains when you thin VA but there are some decent ones there as well as all the incredible history of this country.

NICE

Hi David, thank you. We used to be stationed in Norfolk almost a decade ago so we know that area pretty well but this was our first trip to the Shenandoah Valley and mountains - courtesy of Mike Cooper and his wife Buffy btw.

Hi Sonja, thank you. I loved how the pictures came out but they don't do it justice. It was just spectacular. I'll be working on the moose blog over the next couple of days :-)

Hi Laura, that's exactly how we felt!

Hi John, yes that about sums it up!

Hi Debbie, thank you - stay tuned, I'll post about the moose within the next couple of days. That was quite something.

Those photos transport one back to the ground zero of our country's founding!  Having grown up in California all my life, things here seem so new in comparison.  I absolutely love that picture of Mauzy shops!

Hi Myrl, I have a few more pictures of the shops at Mauzy I will have to post another time. The shops are all in original buildings (such as the ice house) and are pretty much in original condition - well worth a visit. But they also have lots of beautiful things for purchase.

Hi Than, it's truly a beautiful area! You should visit sometime.

Hi Lisa, you noticed! Not anybody we knew but I didn't have the heart to ask him to get out so that I could take the picture... I tried to hide him instead :-)

Hi Tony & Darcy, you will love it, I am sure! Maybe we need to plan a big AR Meet Up there!

Hi Louise, why thank you very much! The pass was a very nice and much appreciated bonus!

Hi Mike, I thought you would recognize it ;-) Hubby just corrected me, it wasn't a moose who drooled on me but an elk (I believe I've just outed myself as a city girl) .. I'm working on it!

Hi Joan, thank you! You've got the White Mountains - they are just as spectacular, it actually reminded me a lot of NH. Let us know when you are coming :-)

Hi William, thank you! Reaching the end of Storybook Trail was pretty spectacular .. you step out of the forest and are greeted by that view. Amazing.

Hi Janis, it was a wonderful week all around - of course we wish we could have stayed longer.

Hi James, you could make it in a day!

Hi Lisa, haha! Hubby corrected me that it was an Elk btw .. oh well, still a big animal with lots of drool :-)

Andrea:  Since you are slowly becoming our wildlife expert... someone recently told me that if you cross-breed a Deer and a Zebra... the offspring is called a "Debra."  I am not sure that I believe that.  Whaddya think?  I have already asked two women friends named Debra about this... and now neither one will talk to me.  :(
