They moved to this country, became citizens, both got jobs, and lived below their means. They saved carefully, and they saved for a long time.

Even in their search for a home they were careful, looking well below their means.

Qualifying for the house they chose was no problem. When the teen aged daughter asked why they could not buy a larger two story home instead of a one story home, the mother's answer was classic.

"Do you want to buy a big home, and we buy all your clothes at Good Will? Or do you want to buy this (smaller) home so we can buy you new clothes?" the daughter got it, and was happy with the home they got.The Phil Leng Team - A House SOLD Name in Sultan

The parents worked different shifts, and did not have a computer. During the transaction, signing things was always an issue! Once, in the middle of the transaction, they were heading out on vacation for a week. We needed an initial, and couldn't wait until they got back. So we met in a Starbucks parking lot at 3:15 am on their way to California!

After that, things settled down. It took an extension or two, but the transaction closed and they were able to move in.

Hi Wayne,

Your comment made me laugh! Then I realized it sounded like I was saying the transaction was done the old fashined way. I guess in a way it was  - no electronic signatures, no email...

I was referring to the old fashioned way of buying your first home by working hard, living on less than you make, saving money...

Old fashioned...mmmm..love it....and the daughter like lots of people thinks that taller is better and pricier...and ranches...are pricier to build, buy etc, given the size comparison....glad there was a happily ever after !
