70th Annual Roy Webster Cross Channel Swim, Hood River, Sept. 3, 2012
It's almost time for one of Hood River's most popular events. The Cross-Channel swim is just as the name implies... 500 hearty souls swim the mile across the Columbia River. This is not a race, but rather a great opportunity to join the community in a time honored tradition since 1942. Come to swim or to watch! Register now!

Swimmers will sign in, then board the Sternwheeler paddle boat at 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 3rd to be taken to the Washington side of the river where they will jump overboard and swim back to Hood River. Swimmers jump at 7:45 and swim through a swim lane created by numerous volunteers on sailboats, kayaks and paddle boards there to guide, encourage and protect them. Participants should be intermediate or better swimmers, 10 years old or older. Kids under 15 must swim with an adult.
The Columbia River is the largest river in the Pacific Northwest and the 4th largest river in the U.S. This event attracts participants from all over the world, many of whom return year after year to attend.
