As a real estate agent and an active member of the social media community, you sure have got your hands full. You’re Facebook-ing, you’re tweeting, you’re LinkedIn-ing, blogging…and the list goes on. All of this is set on top of your already busy work schedule of doing what you do best – selling. Of course forming relationships with clients and getting homes on the market is a top priority, but we cannot forget the importance of social media that ultimately plays a big part in your business.

As your real estate virtual assistants, we make it a priority to keep you informed about how the use of social media will continue to enhance your online presence, and your role as a top real estate agent in your community.

We know that Facebook is huge. Because of this, it’s easy to let the smaller (but still huge) platforms get pushed under the rug. That is why we will be reminding you of the importance of Twitter. We know you have the basics down pat, but here are some surefire ways to keep your tweets thoughtful, engaging and worthwhile.

1. Use an Icebreaker:  Remember back in the day when networking was about meeting people face to face? Geeze, that was such a long time ago. Icebreakers were important back then, and are just as important in today’s digital world. With just 10 minutes of effort, you could build a valuable relationship on Twitter. If you find a relevant tweet among your followers, retweet their link and send them a follow-up @message with a compliment and a link to your own blog or website.

2. Tweet Using Your Own Voice: Sure the reason we tweet is to make sure we’re maintaining an active presence on Twitter. But ideally, we tweet with hopes that others will find our content engaging and want to click on our links and retweet us. Do your best to create your own tweets, @replies and promotional tweets that match not only your brand but your personality as well. It doesn’t always have to be formal.

3. Avoid Following for the Sake of Following: Don’t just follow anyone with the hopes that they will follow you back. Do a little background research on other Twitter users and find out if networking with them could be a beneficial relationship. You can have 100,000 followers – but if they have no interest in your content where will it get you? Tools such as Follower Wonk, Twello and Wefollow can help you find people who are in your in your area, a part of your industry, or interested in your industry.

4. Use Keywords: In short, keywords are the backbone of content. Try creating a list of keywords that best describe you and your brand. We know you only get 140 characters per tweet. Think quality over quantity and make them count by incorporating your keywords!

5. Find Out what Your Clients Want: Monitor your Twitter feed for clues as to what your clients want. Watch out for any problems or concerns you see come up within your industry, and tweet about how you can solve them. Provide links to videos or articles that will answer the questions of your followers. This could lead to an ongoing tweet-ver-sation that could turn into a client relationship down the line.

I am signed up with Twitter, but have never done anything to make it a "Marketing" effort.  Every customer and client I've talked to do not mention Twitter in conversations or emails.  When I see that something is there, then I will take an active investigation.
