Lake Lanier Resort
One of the benefits of living in the beautiful mountains of Northeast Georgia/ Western North Carolina is being within 2 hours of Atlanta GA, Asheville NC and Chatanooga TN. A while back my family and I traveled down to the Atlanta area to Lake Lanier Islands Resort. WOW! A 38,ooo acre lake offering a ton of summer fun. There is truly something for everyone at this lakeside resort.
Lake Lanier for Kids
This is a great place for family fun as there is so much for kids to do. Beyond the spectacular lake, there is the Lake Lanier Islands Beach and Waterpark that offers 11 water rides including some wild water rides such as the Raging River, Wild Waves, Splash Down, Racing Waters and more. For the less adventurous in your crowd there is the Kiddie Lagoon. There is also a ropes course and a miniture golf. You need to make sure you bring some shoes/ flip-flops as the concrete is scalding hot between the water rides.
Lake Lanier Hiking
The Legacy Wellness Trails at Lake Lanier Islands Resort have several different hiking trails. There is paved walking trails, hiking trails with man-made pathways and hiking trails following natural pathways. Hiking boots are recommended for the natural pathway trail. Fortunately there are park benches along the paved Lanier Trail. The trails range in distance from 0.4 of a mile ( Blue Sky Stroll) to 6 miles ( Blue Ridge Extreme).
Lake Lanier Boating
Of course the highlight of a trip to the resort is the incredible lake itself. To truly enjoy the massive 38,000 acre lake you need to get out on it. You can rent a boat at Harbor Landing Boat Rentals. The folks at the marina were very hospitable. Once out on Lake Lanier the trick is not to get lost on the lake. With 692 miles of shore line it all begins to look the same after a long day out on the lake. That said, if you ever have the time a trip out on this lake is worth it.
