Lance Armstrong ends his fight against the USADA

Lance Armstrong announced Thursday night that he would disregard a midnight deadline the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency had given him to challenge the results of USADA's two-year investigation of his legendary cycling teams, a probe that determined Armstrong used performance-enhancing drugs and blood transfusions.

“There comes a point in every man’s life when he has to say, ‘Enough is enough.’ For me, that time is now,

Armstrong said in a statement claiming he was a victim of a witch hunt. “The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for our foundation and on me leads me to where I am today — finished with this nonsense.”

I must admit I don't really "follow" bicycling as a sport, but what bothers me about this news is the fact that Lance Armstrong has been drug tested more than any other athele in history and he has never tested positive for "doping".  I thought that in this country we were innocent until proven guilty.  Lance has done so much over the years for cancer patients and survivors.  My stance on this is that unless there is solid proof that he has done something wrong then he should not be stripped of his medals, but in the end he and God know what is true and nothing else really matters.

What are your thoughts on this?  I am curious to see how many people believe that our country's standards of innocent until proven guilty still are true.

I agree with you, Ashley, he has been subjected to so many tests, it seems crazy that they just won't leave it alone.

The truely sad part is there are people who will assume his guilt because he has chosen to give up the fight. As you say,  He knows the truth of the situation and Lance has to take comfort in that.

I don't believe they shoulld take his metals from him. But I doubt that counts for much.

Good morning Ashley,

If it were seven years ago and they had substantial evidence to bring it too light then it would be legal to make him respond.

I think it is also a group trying to validate their existence.

Make yourself a great day.

Hi Ashley - Just my opinion as someone who was involved in the sport, but he wasn't found guilty - he was asked to defend himself against credible evidence. The tests were always way behind the capabilities of the cheaters - look at those who successfully cheated for years before or without getting caught. And I'd guess that the quality of the witnesses, like George Hincapie, provide reasonable grounds for proceeding. I have no sympathy.

Lance got screwed for sure but I applaud his decision not to get into the mud and wrestle with his accusers. The big break is for the second place finishers who were dirty.

Sounds like a big witch hunt to me.  Gets a point where they just wear you down I guess.

This is such a tragedy.  No proof, evidence to the contrary, yet they demonize him.  It's a travesty AND a tragedy.

While I have long admired Armstrong, there is some credible first-person testimony against him...and the US Anti-Doping Agency chief executive has stated their evidence will be made public. So I guess we'll have to wait and see.
