Yesterday marked a sad day in the Washington, DC area. Football great Clinton Portis announced his official retirement from the NFL.
Portis retired as the Redskins' second all-time leading rusher with 6,824 yards. Portis also ends his career just 77 yards shy of 10,000 rushing yards. The numbers speak for themselves but, his heart speaks even louder. Anyone that watched Portis play saw him give it everything he had, every game. It didn’t matter how far up or down the Redskins’ were; Portis was always on the field playing with passion.
Portis also provided the DC area with entertainment off the field. In particular during the the Redskins 2005 run to the playoffs Portis dressed up in character – Dolla Bill, Coach Janky Spanky, and Bro Sweets just to name a few.
Whether he gets inducted to the hall of fame or not every Redskins fan views him as a winner and one of the NFL’s best running backs in pass protection. Portis left it all on the field every single game and for that he will never be forgotten.
