Paint - Staging magic in a can: Color trends of 2012

Home Stager with Design2Sell

When we do home staging consultations the most fundamental and persistent debate is the one concerning colors. Homeowners are repeatedly proposed changes in color in one or several rooms. The reason why we urge this remarkable change is due to the transition of feelings that can be created with new paint. It brings warmth and emotions into the space which is a vital part in the process of constructing and preparing your property for sale and in order to attract potential buyers.

The 2012 color trends are all inspired by mother earth. We suggest to use this kind of color trends in decor and stick to the neutrals when it comes to wall paint. The colors of the year fall into the earthy categories of Neutrals, Reds, Blues and Greens. In these categories you find neutral colors such as Grey, Cream and Latte. The reds are inspired by the ground from the earth and warmth in colors like Marooned and Gingery. Blues and Greens hold organic and oceanic elements like Turquoise, Lagoon, Basil and Seaweed.

Sellers are so afraid of paint but it makes such a huge difference.  Buyers do not want to have to paint when they buy a house.

Hello Kathy!

That is a very correct statement! It is most essential for the seller to visualize themselves in the buyers situation and understand the preferences of the buyer.

I like the point you make, Barbara, when you say that these colors are great as accessories.  In the redesign consultations I do, I find that home owners are afraid to put color on the wall.  Adding decor items in the trendy colors really helps them feel as they have made progress without committing to the color in a large scale way.

Great post!

Thank you Pam!

Exactly! Using decor with trendy colors is also a creative way to enhance the living areas in the property if home owners don't want to invest in having the walls painted.
