Twisted Bricks. Have You Ever Seen Anything Like This Before? I admit that I don’t know everything nor have I seen everything. But I have traveled a good bit and have seen a variety of different architectural styles and accents. Last week I saw a brick treatment that I have never seen before. Twisted bricks. Have you ever seen anything like this before?
This brick treatment was being constructed on the front of a commercial shopping center in Canton, Ohio. It caught my eye immediately and I had to go for a close up view to see how it was being done. The columns had a core of concrete blocks. The twisted brick technique was applied around the columns.
The twisted arches however had no inner core and were being installed in a wooden mold in the twist pattern. When the bricks and mortar had set, the molds were removed and the twisted pattern was revealed. It was mesmerizing to see and a very unique and interesting effect.
I wonder if the brick masons on this job have to be just a little twisted themselves to do this kind of work. Regardless, they are quite talented and seem to know what they are doing. Wouldn't this be stunning on the front portico of a custom home?
