Is Experian's credit report on you Wrong?

Experian dispute procedure

Call (866) 200-6020, wait through first message

Press #2, wait through message

Press #1, wait through message

Press #1, ...follow instructions

Log onto www.experian.com/reportaccess

Fill in information, hit submit

Fill in the personal information

Print Summary page

Click on "potentially negative"

Click on the first item listed

Click on "Dispute this item"

Click on the drop down menu under "I believe that this item is inaccurate because:"

Click on "No knowledge of account"

Click on "Submit your dispute"

Click on "Yes, submit my dispute"

On confirmation page, type in your e-mail address (this will provide you with notice, once the dispute has been investigated and you can review results online)

Type your e-mail address, again, in the confirmation window

Click on "Yes" under the question "Would you like to continue reviewing your report?" if there are more than one items to dispute

If there is more item that you are disputing, you will be returned to where you can repeat the dispute process for the next item:

There's no e-mail address entering, upon the second and/or subsequent disputes

 (Here are the steps, again: click on the next item listed that you want to dispute, click on "Dispute this item," click on the drop down menu under "I believe that this item is inaccurate because:" click on "No knowledge of account," click on "Submit your dispute," click on "Yes, submit my dispute"

Click on "Yes" under the question "Would you like to continue reviewing your report?" if there are more than two items to dispute and repeat the above process, until all disputes have been logged.

If there are more two items that you are disputing, you will be returned to where you can repeat the dispute process for the next item. Repeat the process until you are returned to the "Confirmation" page, upon the completion of disputing all items that you wish to dispute.

On the "Confirmation" page, after you have disputed the last item which you wish to dispute, click on the blue "Full Report"

Click on "Print Report"

Click on "Close Window"

When you have finished disputing the last item you wish to dispute, click on "No"

You will see an "Investigation Summary" page. You may wish to print this page (access your printing function from your own tool bar - there is no print button on the web page) for reference, though the information is duplicated in the full report that you have already printed out. It is a handy summary.

Some days will pass.

You will receive an e-mail. The subject will read "Investigation Results." The e-mail address from which the e-mail will be sent will be "auto.notification@experian.com."

The subject matter will advise that you view results within four days.

Click on the highlighted blue link in the subject area of the e-mail.

A "Personal Credit Report" page will open.

Beneath "Experian Personal Credit Report" will be an orange bar with white writing that reads "View the results of your dispute"

You will required to enter some information, in order to obtain your investigation results. Do not click on the blue-highlighted area that read "order a current copy of your personal credit report."

Enter the report number of your investigation.

Find the report number you need in the e-mail subject area, just beneath the highlighted blue link that opened up the internet window. The report number follows ..."Your Report Number is:"

Choose the state of your home address (the same the you used for your home address, initially, when interacting with Experian) from the drop-down menu.

You will be required to enter the investigation ID of your investigation.

Find the investigation ID you need in the e-mail subject area, just beneath "Your Report Number is:" The investigation ID follows... "Your Investigation ID is:"

Enter your Social Security number.

Enter the Zip code of your home address (the same the you used for your home address, initially, when interacting with Experian)

Beneath the "View the results of your dispute" area is another orange bar with white writing that reads "Terms and conditions"

Click in the box in front of all three boxes

Click on "Submit" which is located beneath the "Terms and conditions" area, near the bottom of the page

A page will open. Your report number, name, and the report date will appear at the top of the page.

Go to near the bottom of the page and click on "View your results>>"

A page will open. Your report number, name, and the report date will appear at the top of the page.

Below the top "box," beneath "Go Back>>," and beneath a two-sentence instruction that begins with "The following shows the revision(s) made..." is an area headed by the title Summary of Investigation Results" in black writing, underscored by an orange line that extends across most of the page.

In the "Summary of Investigation Results" area is the information about each of the accounts that you disputed.

On the left is referenced each account. On the right is the result, which will read either "Deleted" or "Remains."

Note which accounts are "Deleted" and which "Remain" and/or print out this page for reference.
