Pasadena CA - Discover Art in Some Unexpected Places

Pasadena CA - Discover Art in Some Unexpected Places

Pasadena has access to some of the finest art in the country and the world but there is now an opportunity to discover art is some unexpected places.    The Rotating Art Public Art Exhibition Program is a chance to see art at nine spots throughout the city.  Six of the pieces are on loan and three were designed specifically for the city of Pasadena.  Each of the sites is a bit unexpected --- for example, one is in the median across the street from Honda of Pasadena on Walnut Street in an industrial zone(by the way -- not far from In-N-Out Burger -- yum).    Some are located on previously unnoticed slivers of land that have been transformed into something very special.

Pasadena Artwork in the Streets

The rotating program is 18 months in length and you can find additional information at: http://cityofpasadena.net/arts/Rotating_Public_Art_Program/  Information is available in English, Spanish, Armenian and in large print.   Have fun -- it’s free and a great way to discover Pasadena.

Jim - things very much for stopping by and commenting.  It is greatly appreciated.  Have a great day.

Roger - nice to see art pop in some unexpected places.

Sharon - I didn't touch the panels of the piece you mention but they certainly had the apperance of glass.  Glad you liked it.  That particular installation is located on a median across the street from the Honda car dealer and opposite a body shop --- unusual spot to find art -- makes this program very interesting.

Hi Michael - Public art is a great infrastructure investment for any city. Breaking up the urban landscape with the unexpected helps give a community character, a sense of place and a unique feel, and public art is a good way to accomplish that.

Michael, the Rotating Art Public Art Exhibition Program is great! We certainly enjoy Art placed around Albuquerque. That's one program we don't have a problem with tax dollars being used for :)

How fun!  I was a bit perplexed by the second one, but I am sure that "in person", there is much to see there.  All of them are fabulous...and I am a bit jealous.

John - I wasn't able to find the source of funding for this particular program but I do believe the city of Pasadena, its residents and visitors benefit from the various art installations in every district of the city.

Belinda - I agree.

Will - and thank you for stopping by and commenting.

Laura - ths list of things to do in Pasadena is endless(hyperpole intended).

Suzanne - maybe my angle for the second photograph wasn't ideal - it looks pretty cool in person and it's right around the corner from a house I sold last year so my client gets to see it everyday.

Jeolous, not sure I understand why you are jealous -- there can't be snow on the ground yet in Minnesota...

Michael, I loved the Flowers that looked like Stained Glass. Is that a permanent to Pasadena or one of the rotating ones?

Hella - I think the addition of these art installations throughout the city enhances the many museums that exist in the city.  Pasadena has so much to enjoy and explore.

Endre - I couldn't find information but will research and post later.
