Tuesday's Treasures - white carrots grown in my Haiku Maui garden

Have you ever grown white carrots?  Not parsnips, and not daikon, these are true carrots but they're not orange.  They came in a seed mix of purple, orange and white carrots, by Renee's Garden seed company.  Since planting them, I have only seen a few of the purple ones earlier on, as I was thinning them.  These white carrots were the most robust and I think they out competed the poor purple cohorts, ending up as the largest ones in the patch.  I can see there are some orange ones in the ground still, but not nearly as big as these!  Just picked today.

I have to say that I really like the results from Renee's Garden Seeds, and they offer some unigue varieties of vegetables.  

If you lived in Haiku Maui, you could be gardening all year long and enjoying beautiful bounty like this!

Georgina,  I have never tasted the white carrots.  How do they compare to the orange carrots in flavor?

Sharon - they taste the same, especially if you close your eyes, haha.  It's a little odd when you grate them into a salad and they look like cheese though.  The brain is so used to orange carrots that it's a little hard to adjust!

***Thanks For Sharing these White carrots with everyone.***  I have never seen white carrots, but I have heard that carrots do come in various colors. Yes, I can imagine that when you grate them into a salad, they look just like Cheese. INTERESTING, how they taste the Same as the Orange ones.

Hi Georgina, in the grocery stores they call it 'Daikon". Korean recipe use it for " kimchi"

I've heard about (and eaten) white asparagus -- delicious, but not white carrots.  These carrots of yours sure look nice.

Those are some healthy-looking carrots.  And yes, I would have thought they were parsnips or turnips if you hadn't said.
