By

In this day and age, our pets are our children for most of us.   We have travelled with Clayton and found some trips to be challenging when it comes to pets.  That got me thinking about families who must relocate to a new area with pets.   They must be wondering….is my new city/town going to be pet friendly?  Well, if you are considering Wilmington, NC, its beaches and the River District….the answer is YES. walking beach with Clayton Wilmington will be a place you can be happy about when considering your  “4 legged friends.”

Wilmington is pet friendly not only for vacationers with its pet friendly hotels and B&B’s, but for the locals as well.
First, let’s start with our dog parks in New Hanover County.  We love our pets so they need parks in many areas of the county.  We have a leash law in our County but have made sure our dogs can run around off the leash to get the exercise they need. They need to run and jump and play with others.

Empie Park Dog Park  –This park is located att 3405 Park Avenue Empie Park is fenced in and has areas for small or large dogs. You will find water and pet waste stations, lots of shade trees. Our park is FREE. Doggy Park Rules can be found HERE.

Hugh McRae Dog Park – This park is located  at 314 Pine Grove Drive. This park is shaded and located mid-town. This dog park is not fenced

Hugh McRae Park
Ogden Dog Park – This park is located  at 615 Ogden Park Drive off of Gordon Road.  Our park in the north end of town is fenced, has lots of shade and is sandy. There is a water faucet with bowls.

Carolina Beach Dog Park – This park is near the beach and located at Mike Chappell Park off Dow Road. Our park in Carolina Beach is fenced and there is shade.

Kure Beach Dog Park – This park is located at Joe Eakes Park on K Avenue  right  across the street from the Kure Beach Police Department. Here you will find a fenced-in area behind the playground and the tennis courts. The park is about a  5 minute walk to the ocean front pier.

So, the next question is can my “4 legged friend” walk on the beach.   That depends where you go and the time of year.
Wrightsville Beach and the Loop – Pets are welcome during the off season on the beach.  But year round they are always welcome at the “John Nesbitt Loop”  called the LOOP by the locals.Wrightsville Loop  This is a 2.4 mile loop on the island with pet friendly water fountains.   Rain or shine, you will find pets running, jogging or walking with their owners….and sometimes in strollers.
