KP International Market a Powerhouse for Multi-Ethnic Foods

By
Real Estate Agent

KP International Market in Rancho Cordova is a serious foodie’s nirvana.  Originally known as Koreana Plaza, and catering to mainly Korean and other Asian cultures, the store has greatly expanded floor space at Zinfandel Square, easily making it more than double, if not triple the size of the next largest supermarket in the community.

In addition to the expanded floor space, KP International has expanded it horizons into other ethnic foods.  There is an Indian section, as well as a large Hispanic area with a delightful tortilla counter and maker on-site.  Food items, sauces and products from Russian and European countries are also available.

KP International Market - Rancho Cordova

There is an amazing variety of fresh produce items.  Some I had never seen before. Especially, the very fresh and exotic looking mushrooms, equally intriguing greens, and lychees, which I hadn’t seen in years.

There is an impressive fresh fish and meat counter.  At the far end of the marketplace near the bakery, it appears they are constructing a food court.  It is an experience to simply walk through KP International and explore the treasure trove of items on the bountiful shelves.  I came away feeling I had traveled to Korea, Japan, China, Thailand, Mexico, Russia, and other European destinations, without ever having bought a ticket.

I had been searching for a local grocery that stocked Thai tea.  I love it iced, with cream and ice.  I had not been able to locate it other than served in Thai restaurants.  It was found happily sitting on a shelf with other teas, near the check-out stands.

KP International (formerly Koreana Plaza) is located at 10995 Olson Drive (corner of Folsom Boulevard), Rancho Cordova.  KP International Market includes all buildings in the scene - even those pictured above at the far end of the parking lot.

I would have to drive about 70 miles to find a store similar to this one. Enjoy your Thai tea! :))

Joni - I didn't quite need to drive 70 miles before.  But it was to the opposite end of the county.  KP International Market is within 5 miles of home and is much larger.

Myrl,

This post is such a reminder to me of just how International America has become. I'm sure you'll enjoy shopping there and trying new foods. Others will too! Variety is the spice of life, but I'll never give up on Pizza and the American food I grew up on.

I'm expecting to see a similar store (but much smaller in size) in Flower Mound, TX soon. They should be breaking ground soon.

Food is no longer mysterious and you don't have to travel overseas to enjoy something different anymore!

Hi Myrl, I made it to the Tall Ship parade today and as I deliberate what I will have for dinner, I was taken with this post and the first thought I had was I would bet they even have a midwesterner secton, LOL. I couldn't imagine what it would be stocked with but guessing I could find something. Always great featuring local markets that offer the more unusual and still have the staples needed for us less creative types.

Patricia - Funny that you mention pizza.  I can remember the first time I sunk my teeth into that delicacy, even after all these years!  It would be hard for me to give it up too!  And, I have my American favorites as well!  I hope you are having a wonderful holiday weekend!

Rebecca - I don't know how large your community is, but if you have a World Market, they sometimes carry a large variety of ethic foods.  Also, Trader Joe's.  But, nothing I've been to compares with the amount of different cultural foods I saw at KP International.  It's in a class all its own!

William - While at KP International I couldn't help but think of you.  I wondered what you would be willing to try and eat, and I pretty much knew the things you wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole:-)  Still, I thought it would be wonderful to live near you, and learn your likes and dislikes and cook some things for you!  I know you're a picky eater, but I bet I could get you to venture out of your comfort zone, to try some really amazing things that would blow your socks off:-)  I think it was you that said, "Get out of judgment and into curiosity". . .LOL

Janna - It was such an adventure, that I found myself there two days in a row:-)  I love that I can get a large variety of freshly made tortillas right on the spot!

Tony and Darcy - The prices seem average.  I notice the price of wonderful looking produce is reasonably priced.

Toni - If you are adventurous in what you like to cook and eat, I'm betting you would love this place!

Laura - I brought home some and they were wonderful.  The bad news, I needed a nap afterward:-)
