The Virtual Labor Day Run

is happening throughout Silver Spring ... Montgomery County ... Maryland ... the USA and the world and is not only being run virtually. You actually do have to put on your running shoes, grab a bottle of water and a friend and head outdoors. It's a different way to celebrate the traditional end of summer ... or perhaps in addition to a family get-together. Just think how much more you'll enjoy that BBQ after exercising!

Make or renew your commitment to stay/get fit this Labor Day and join others throughout your city, county, state .... Enter at www.active.com (find your local Labor Day Run page) and map out the route you commit to running on September 3rd, then track your progress until November 11th, 2012 - World Run Day.

Ready, set, run! World Running Day 2012

Participants are encouraged to dedicate their run to a cause or person, sharing their thoughts and donating to their charity of choice ... according to the organizers last year's World Run Day raised over $50,000. Everyone who registers will receive an official World Run Day Event T-Shirt.

As a former Spinning class instructor who used to motivate 15+ members to make it to the finish line about 3 times a week, I know how powerful a community of like-minded people can be to help you get (back) into shape. That is Motivation - with a capital M!

Sometimes life gets in the way of maintaining your fitness - stress ... kids ... illness can all push running (substitute with your activity of choice) to the back of your mind. It happened to me but I am more determined than ever to get back on track. If that sounds familiar, then why not choose Labor Day as your starting point to a healthier, fitter and happier you?

Join me in Silver Spring, MD ... or anywhere in Montgomery County ... Maryland .. the USA .. the world for the 2012 Virtual Labor Day Run.

Hi John, sign up for the Labor Day Run in Albuquerque! You pick your own course - it doesn't matter if it's short or long, easy or difficult - it's all about committing and participating.

Hi Rebecca, you can register and put your usual course on the map .. and perhaps motivate others to do the same!

My office is going on a diet/excercise program.  We did it a few years ago with a lot of success, sadly we've slowly packed those pounds back on... time to shed them again.

Andrea, for the last six weeks or so I've been hitting the treadmill almost every day again. All that sitting we do is really not good. Who knows, maybe I'm up for this challenge.

Thanks for the encouragement, Andrea.  My sons just joined a local gym, and I joined with them.  Even though I'm already a member at Wellness, it will be a lot more fun to workout with the boys again.  Of course, they're men now.  8-)

Hi Tammy, they also have a group options! You could set up and organize a group event and then commit to walking/jogging the same course regularly ... obviously too late for Labor Day but any day would be a good start.

Hi Martha, I did see some registrants in Annapolis! Go map out a route and put yourself on the map, too! Thanks for the reblog and helping to spread the word.

Hi Silvia, when our schedules are so full as they have been lately, something has got to give - exercise is often one of the first things to go. I'm going to renew my commitment .. I miss it!

Hi Mike, you are welcome but I don't think you need it! You are Mr. Motivation yourself! I started going on little jogs with my oldest .. it's a lot of fun getting out with your family and exercising together.

Andrea ~ I really need to make time to exercise. That's one thing I have not been able to do consistently.

I agree with Diane #11.

With all the STUFF we place on our TO DO list daily, I am just as guilty not sticking to the exercise thing.

We are decicated enough to our necessary items for business, but we have to also find this dedication to ourselves.

What do we call that? We have to run our business and not let our business run us.

Hi Diane, me, too! I've been so busy that, unfortunately, exercise is the one thing that I kept rescheduling .. I'm trying to be much better about it and actually stick to a schedule.

Hi Kevin, that's exactly what we call it. I'm going to write exercise back into my schedule and I plan on keeping the appointments.

Hi Brenda, isn't it? I loved it - especially how you can track your progress. Nov. 11th is not too far out - I can manage doing that.
