What is a reverse mortgage?

A reverse mortgage is a Mortgage loan that is available to Senior citizen homeowners.. It allows our seniors to use the equity that they have in their home to Pay for any type of living costs, home Repair, health care or costs that they have. Payments are made by the lenders to the to the Senior homeowner rather than the reverse.

Are reverse mortgages the same as home equity lines of credit?

Yes in a way... With a home equity loan repayments start right away and the home can have first mortgage already in place. For a reverse mortgage, There borrower does not have to payback the mortgage until they no longer live in the home. This happens when the borrower expires, sells his or her home or leaves the home to go to a assisted living facility. You have to have the home free of tax liens other types of attachments in order to do a reverse mortgage.

Reverse mortgage can be very useful for seniors with lots of equity in their homes. Many seniors have taken one and are happy with the benefits it provides. It's important to anyone thinking about it to contact a mortgage expert who knows how it works.

There has been much discussions regarding Reverse Mortgages. They are costly but like you said, you do't have to repay typically until you die or move out. And aside from that, if you do live a long life, you will never have to pay back more than what you borrowed.
