City of Friendswood

City of Friendswood July 31, 2007 Quakers were the original inhabitants of the city of Friendswood. This community was founded in 1895 and has grown considerably since the early days of its Quaker residents. The city of Friendswood now encompasses parts of the northern region of Galveston County and the southern region of Harris County. Clear Creek runs through the community and offers direct water access into Clear Lake which empties into the Galveston Bay and then on to the Gulf of Mexico.

English Quaker settlers, Frank Jacob Brown and Thomas Hadley Lewis, founded the Friendswood community and felt that this was their "promised land". Friendswood, developed as a farming community, originally flourished with Fig Orchards, Satsuma orange groves and rice fields. The Quaker residents founded their community on hard work, simple, clean living, devotion to God, family and education. These values are still recognized by Friendswood's current residents. The current population of the city of Friendswood is well over 30,000. Although the city is growing in population its small town values are still quite present.

Friendswood is mainly a residential area but with its unique geographic location it allows its residents to have the convenience of working in the close metropolitan areas of Houston, the Bay Area, and Galveston.
