Blogging 101: Are You Forgetting the most Important Rule?
Here is a good reminder. Remember to link back via photos or words to your website. The photos are the easiest to forget. When you get spoiled doing all your posts on an iPad, it becomes a two stepnprocess to go back and get this done properly.
Blogging 101: Are You Forgetting the Most Important Rule? While working with my web developer creating my new website (which I did and then redid), I wanted to research other websites from Active Rain members while doing my comments for the day. I was shocked to find that many members don’t have one link back to their website, let along their individual pages: About, Gallery, Faqs, Contact, ect.
If you aren’t linking your posts to your website, you’re not utilizing all that Active Rain offers such as boatloads of Google Juice for better SEO (Search Engine Optimization). I know this because prior to learning WordPress I never did anything other than link my Active Rain posts to my website. However, I still showed up at the top of page one of Google. That’s the power of Active Rain and it’s so simple.
You can link Active Rain posts to your website a few ways. You can add links directly in the content or hidden beneath your photos as I've done in this post (go ahead and click one of the photos, I'd love the Google Juice!) This is a good idea when you don't want a lot of obvious links, but Google will see the link.
While in edit mode highlight a key word or phrase and a box will appear. Put in your website’s URL and write your blog's title, hopefully specific key word rich in the "description" box. To hide it under a picture, highlight the photo, then click the link and do the same. Just to be safe, once you've posted it make sure the links work. That’s all it takes.
I know sometimes we’re in a rush and can forget to link our posts to our websites (I’m guilty of this myself), and/or some Newbies might not know all the ways that blogging on Active Rain can work for you and increase your website’s ranking. For more information on how to utilize Active Rain's many resouces check out thier universty - it will teach you every thing you need to know!
