Young Artist Award Competition

The City of Gaithersburg and the Kentlands Community Foundation announce the 10th Annual Young Artist Award, a juried competition culminating in a concert for the top prize winners. The Young Artist Award provides young instrumental, piano and vocal musicians with an enriching artistic experience. The following are the general guidelines of the Young Artist Award:

  • Open to vocal and instrumental (woodwind, brass, string, guitar, piano) soloists between the ages of 12-18 years. Applicants must be at least 12 years old but no more than 18 years old by December 31, 2012.

  • Participants may apply as vocal soloist, wind/brass soloist, string soloist or piano soloist.  Performers must provide their own piano accompanists.

  • Previous First Place winners may not apply in the category in which they won.

  • Participants will perform before a live jury in a closed audition on Saturday, February 2, 2013.

  • First, second, third and honorable mention prizes may be awarded in each category (Vocal, Wind/Brass, String, and Piano).

  • All participants will receive written feedback from the jurors.

  • Winners will be notified by phone within one day of the competition and a letter will be sent within seven business days.

  • Top prize winners will be presented in the Young Artist Award Concert on Saturday, March 16, 2013. Participants MUST be available.

  • Participants must bring three (3) copies of their audition repertoire to competition. Put first and last names in top right corner of all pages. Copies will not be returned. (Failure to bring copies will result in lowering of competition score.)

For more information, go to www.gaithersburgmd.gov/artsbarn or  www.kentlands.org.
