Out here in Tracy California, our city like many others across America have face real and difficult challenges throughout the past half decade. Fortunately the Mayor of Tracy Mr. Brent Ives has brought a strong management skills, and more importantly leadership to his position. In addition, Mayor Ives and many city officials understand and value the role of the RE community within the city. Last week Mayor Ives came to our local Realtor marketing meeting to express his thanks for what we do, and to layout his vision for Tracy as we move forward.

Mayor Ives spoke about the cities strong belief in private property rights and the difficulty in dealing with vacant boarded up and unsightly building in our downtown area. He said that the city is always looking for ways to help the owners of these buildings turn them into small business and make them an asset to the city rather than remain a blight.

He spoke about our 100,000 square foot mall and that while there are many vacant store fronts the mall has shown increased foot traffic and gross sales in 2012. This was confirmed by the GM of the mall who also spoke at our meeting a few weeks previous.

While many additional topics were covered he also took question on all topics some of which regarded well known issues throughout the city. He maintained a serious discussion that was interlaced with humor. All in all, the Mayor, while running unopposed this year, picked up the votes of most of us within the RE community. The problem with Tracy is the illegal aliens and the majority of people on government assistance. It's really a statewide issue, but Tracy needs to do something to help alleviate the strain.
