Would you or wouldn't you?home inspection

Have a home inspection done on new construction?

A home inspection we had done several weeks ago on a newly constructed home has been a big pain in my side today. First from the lender who more or less states it is not necessary as the homes are inspected througout the building process, and two I believe the builder was offended that we actually had one done.

I always RECOMMEND a home inspection regardless of the age of the home. This is a huge investment for most buyers and I think that any extra reassurance that everything is in working order is well worth the small investment of a home inspection.

I would like to hear some of your thoughts on this subject. Would you or wouldn't you recommend a home inspecton on new construction?

Absolutely.... we recommend a home inspection on new homes.  It's amazing the stuff a good inspector can find.  And, yes it does frustrate the builders but things need to be right before closing.

I order a home inspection on a dog house!  No, seriously, a home inspection is critical to any sale and I advise my buyers to get one or forever keep their mouths shut when they find out that what they did not know has come back to cause them severe grief.

Janice, you may need a home inspection even more on new construction.  A lot of people actually recommend two - once before drywall and once at the end.

Jeanne and Ralph, exactly my opinion and we have caught many things that needed attention on new construction via a home inspection prior to closing.

Marnie, kind of like voting...if you don't vote you don't have the right to complain.

Patricia, really all I do is recommend the inspection and leave it up to the buyer to make the decision.
