Every time I open my fridge I see one item that seems really out of place and is not edible .. a house! Whaaat? Why? How? you are asking? Why would I do such a thing? I admit, it might seem a bit strange but I can assure you that there is a fairly simple explanation: I am big on visualizing my goals.

And big goals we have. We've more than outgrown our current house and hubby's commute to Walter Reed NMMC is just too long. It's taking too much time away from the most important part of our life, our girls. Our dream is to move-up within the Silver Spring, MD area within a year or two.

We are regular hard working people - there has been no winning lottery ticket in our past and there will be no big inheritance in our future.  We have to make a plan in order to make our home-buying dream come true. The house in the fridge is just a reminder to stick to the plan and to the budget.

Whether it's the first house or the fifth most people cannot just go out one day and purchase one. It takes planning, budgeting and discipline. Seeing your goal in front of you can help keep you focused.

If you don't happen to have a house handy, you could also cut out a picture and attach it to the front of your fridge or tape it to your bathroom mirror. Or you can stick a copy right where seeing a visual of your dream may have the biggest impact: your wallet .. in front of your credit cards.

The fridge was my choice because I look into it more than a mirror - I have kids - as well as my wallet.

If you are dreaming of a new home a bit of visualization may just help get or keep you on track, too. When you are ready to set out on your home-buying journey in the Silver Spring, MD area, please give me a call - I can help make your dream come true.

What a great post! I totally believe in this type of daily reminder. Energy goes where energy flows! If you are meditating, praying whatever it is that you believe in you can make it a reality.

Hi Andrea,

I enjoyed reading your story and I'm also a big believer in visualizing goals.

You will accomplish your goal; probably even exceed your own expectations as well.

All the best for the rest of 2012!

yep you dont buy a house without a lot of planning and preparation. Nothing worthwhile comes easy but with work persevearance and a plan toss in some very important favor... ALL things are possible

Hi Monique, thank you. Praying or meditating, positive thinking and visualization all can help you attain your goals.

Hi Wandanna, thank you. We are determined, have a budget in place and are working on our to-do list in our current house... we will make it happen.

Hi April, thanks! We are .. multiple times each day :-)

Hi David, now that sounds like a recipe for success!

I also enjoyed reading your story and I knew people who reached their goals because they visualize their dreams.  Great post!

Usually the frig would be something that should be locked than opened, but if that is what it takes than I wish you luck.

Andrea~ I have also seen people make a bulletin board with all their goals.. wants and needs.. It is placed in a prominent place in the kitchen and seen every day! That car, vacation, home, new camera, computer or whatever.. a reason to make things happen can keep frivolous spending down and reach goals!

Andrea, that's a clever place to put your visualization reminders.  I should put a grossly fat person's picture in mine.  That might make me keep that door closed more often.  8-)

Andrea, I'll bet a bigger house is in your near future with determination like that!  Maybe the air conditioning unit will be superior with all that visualizing in such a cold place  ;-D

Hi Regina, thank you. I find a visual reminder very helpful, no matter what my goals are.

Hi Winston, very funny! Locking my fridge would get me in trouble with 2 little munchkins.

Hi Janis, exactly. That's why I thought having a picture of the dream in one's wallet may be helpful to those who impulse shop a lot.

Hi Mike, I have actually seen people do just that .. and you know what? It worked for them! However, I don't think that you need that daily reminder.

Hi Mona, hahaha! I looked at a historic home not too long ago that had the original ice house out back... perhaps that had something to do with it :-)

Hi Rebecca, thank you very much. Also I'm really looking forward to more space and new projects, I've punched the numbers and am keeping an eye on the market... I know it will take a while longer to be able to buy something that will come very close to our dream home. It's worth the wait though!

I must admit I never thought of putting a house in my fridge but it's a great idea.  Just like when go on a diet we put our fat pics on the fridge door.

Andrea, be careful, you might get transferred to Alaska or somewhere else really cold!  I have done a vision board, and used mind movies (a video with music and pictures)-amazing what can be accomplished!  It pays to have a plan-all the best to you!----Suggested!

Andrea, what a great idea! Very creative! I've heard of people putting a discouraging picture on their fridge when they wanted to lose weight but putting a house into the fridge is special!

Hi John, yep just like it. I looked at it multiple times a day and it's a great motivator to stay on track.

Hi Bridget, so you are saying .. be careful what you wish for? ;-) I have yet to try the mind movies - interesting, I'll have to check into that. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Silvia, thank you! I was searching for a picture of the dream home but we had this little house sitting in the book shelf and I thought .. why not?

I kept meaning to comment on this yesterday Andrea!  This is a wonderful post!  It is very important to visualize your goals.  Once you put something tangible like that in your fridge, on your mirror or whatever, you are taking an active step to make that happen for you and your life.  Congrats!  Suggested by the way.

Ah, my photo needs to be land.  I love my house, but I want more land.  I'd love small acreage and a mini farm.  Not sure I can fit a mini farm in the frig, but the photo idea is great.  We all should have goals we work towards.  I certainly hope you get to claim yours as your own for your family.

Hi Brenda, thank you so much - for the message as well! I do so much better with keeping the focus if I have a clear idea what I am working towards. Of course it helps that I know the Silver Spring area very well, know what to expect and know what we still need to do to make it happen :-)

Hi Tammy, you could create a nice collage with your dream land.. house .. mini farm. A bigger yard is high on our wish list .. I just couldn't find something suitable to add to the house in the fridge ;-)
