How to Pack a Garage When Moving

Most people don’t immediately think about their garage when moving and tend to pack this area of the home last.

garage clutterSince the garage represents an area where many different items are stored, PHA likes to pack this area first.  Why?  This is the room where many items can be purged, and by getting it packed up first, the boxes can be staged leaving room to store additional boxes from the interior of the home.

But, the garage is also where most of the bulky items and tools are located. Here are some tips to successfully pack your garage for an organized move:

Drain all liquids, gasoline, oils, etc. from gas-powered machines.  If you gas mowercan, purchase protective covers specifically designed for your lawn mower, chain saws and/or grills. These covers are a great investment and help minimize damage during the moving process.  Be sure to pack all attachments separately in a well-marked box.

Gather all your tools and sort them by size… any tools with sharp edges need to be bubble-wrapped for protection and then wrapped in packing paper.  PHA always rights “sharp!” on the outside of the paper so the person unpacking is aware of its contents. These tools then get packed in a strong box.  Large/long tools can be bundled together with twine for transport.

For lawn furniture – fold down as much as possible before the moving company arrives in order to save some time.

Follow these tips and you, too, will be on your way to having an organized move.

An organized move is a happy move!
