Do you dance to your clients music...or do you write the music that attracts the type of clients you prefer to work with?
Years ago I owned a sporting goods franchise and as part of our training prior to opening the store we were told by a national sales manager to "learn to dance to the customers music". I thought that was excellent advice at the time, and I always tried to please every customer, bending over backward, ballroom dancing, Country Western, salsa, you name it, if the customer wanted to dance you had better be able to step lively or miss out.
Then one day my very best customer came in and we had a long talk. Now when I say the best customer, he was actually a customer that brought me merchandise to resell, so I wrote him checks to come into my store, and I wrote him some very nice checks each and every time he came by, but he also did this with about 30 other stores in the Denver marketplace. He said that I had a great way with my customers and everyone seemed very happy when they came and went, I mentioned the sales managers tip on dancing to the customers music and he laughed and said "I prefer to write the music and have those that like what I write come find me"
It was a revelation, I had always thought, especially coming from a retail backgorund that you just tried to make the client happy. He told me that I could actually attract the type of client that I wanted and that all I had to do was focus on those clients and I would have as many as I ever needed. I started to look at successful businesses and business people that were all around me, everyone of them was writing their own music and attracting their best customers, and word of mouth spread to other like minded customers, birds of a feather right!
Take a good look at what you are doing and who you are chasing and quit it! Blogging is perhaps one of the best ways to attract the types of customers you are looking for. QUIT trying to be all things to all people and take a lesson from many of the top performers in the world, even the top performers right here on Activerain, they all have a niche, take a good look at the top agents in your market place, I bet they have a niche and all of their customers know it.
SO stop dancing and start writing your own music, write what you love, do what you love and you will soon be attracting the clients that yopu most want to work with.
PS take a good look at your tag name and see what it says about you, does it hit your target every time, or leave people guessing, are you one in a million, or just another one.
