A Time to Remember 9/11.

American Flag from Twin TowersWe all remember where we were when we heard the news about the attacks on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and Flight 93. The loss of life was tremendous and it put international relationships in serious jeopardy.

It’s been eleven years since that tragic event took place that changed the way we Americans look at almost everything. It is a time to remember 9/11.

We longer can board a plane without critical scrutiny. Most of the State and Federal buildings require personal screenings. Luggage and packages are x-rayed and metal detected. Public entertainment and sports events even require pat downs and screenings of all personal items. ID’s are checked and rechecked and it is a lot tougher to get an ID now than it ever was before. So many things have changed and made our lives more difficult. But we are willing to be hassled and inconvenienced so we can do our part so that a breach of our homeland’s security and safety will never occur again.

Flag made for 9/11 Exhibit by children's handsOh so much has changed. We have been changed and we cannot, nor will we ever go back. We cannot reclaim the lives of the men and women who had no idea that that day was their last day. We cannot change the impact it had on the families that lost loved ones. We cannot forget the sacrifices of so many first responders and others that helped to save lives at the risk of losing theirs. And some, a whole lot of them lost their lives trying to save the lives of others, the strangers they did not know.

We now share a common bond with a new appreciation for those that choose this type of profession, to protect us at home and abroad. Thanks to those that sacrifice by putting themselves in harm's way and the sacrifices they and their families make because of a strong commitment to our country.

It is a time to remember 9/11. But have we or will we ever really forget?

Donald, There were so many brave people, so many that had no idea what was happening as the world looked on. I was one of them looking on and wondering and asking why.

Barbara-Jo, I imagine it brought confusion and solitude to the school that day.You teachers had to keep things calm and reassure the children.

Today is a day that should not be forgotten and we should remember all of those that have been impacted by 9/11

Gabe, So many families were impacted. I have friends whose daughter worked a block over that was safe through it all. They were on pins and needles because no cell calls would go through. We all watched and hoped what we had just seen wasn't true.

Living in New York I am surrounded by memory-many memorials have been erected to honor local folks who were killed on 9/11.  It feels like yesterday.

We should all remember and honor this day. I am a little surprised at the low-key news coverage. I know it is painful, but was a life-changing day.

Remember to fly your flags proudly!

Joanna, I know what you are saying. It is so personal being right there and seeing it for yourself.

Holly, Our flag is flying and I hope others will fly theirs too. What better reason than to remember those of 9/11/01.

I will never forget turning on the TV that morning eleven years ago. It took a while for it to all sink in. I just couldn't believe what was happening. I thought it must be some big mistake...who would do this?

GOD BLESS AMERICA. I think we need to hear that more often.

We all remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when 9/11 happened.  As you say, a tragic, horrifying event that changed our world forever!  We will never forget ... thanks for the thoughtful post, Debbie.

Debbie, judging from the number of 9/11 posts today in the Rain - and all the news coverage, I doubt we will "ever forget." And, that's probably good. Although, I doubt we need reminders. My husband and I talked about our memories first thing this morning...

Yes it was a terrible day and we all remember exactly where we were when we heard the news.  Hopefully it has made our nation stronger and will never occur on our soil again.

I couldn't wait to get home that day.  I worked in a tower in Minneapolis, and we were all frightened because we had no idea where they would strike next.

I do remember it well but I'm not seeing all the sentiments that have gone on for the past 10 years.  I know we're not forgetting but is it in the past?

Cheryl, We have been scarred by the events that day.

Patricia, We have a unity that our nation must be protected.

John, God's hand is still with us or we would have possibly had other like events.

Debbie, That is such a patriotic statement. I love to hear that song sung.

Carie, I saw it on TV as it was happening, the planes and the towers falling. It was like is was yesterday in my memory.

Debb, It is on the news and many, many posts. I think people want to remember how it was.

Courtney, The thing about blogging is you get to write what you feel. I really felt this one. Thanks for the suggest.

Belinda, I hope it never occurs again. With all the safeguards in place it is a lot safer.

Suzanne, You are right. We didn't know if planes would start falling out of the skies.

Chris and Dick, Some remember more than others. I remember the patriotism right after it happened and I think some of that has dwindled.
