We went on a road trip yesterday and when we headed home we needed to stop for gas. When we turned into the gas station there was a truck we could barely get around blocking the driveway. I stayed in the car and Donald got out to pump the gas. Then he popped into the store to find out who's truck. As it turned out it was a young girl and she simply was out of gas. Yup, out of gas in the driveway of a gas station. It was up hill from the street to the pump. But that didn't matter to my Donald. He didn't ask anyone else to help, he just went and started to push that girl's truck UP that hill. I got out and went to help too and finally another man came to help as well when a third made a move right about the time we got the truck to the gas pump.
I have no idea how long that poor girl had sat there without asking for help, but the man I know and love would never pass by another person who needs help without lending a hand. But my Donald asked her what she needed and didn't hesitate offering to help for a split second. It makes it even more amazing to me that his heart is so big in the face of going to work every single day with a lot of people who dislike him very much. He gets threatened, cussed and loathed daily by criminals, yet he continues to have a heart of gold. The photo to the left was taken years ago when our Great Dane that was a rescue was just a puppy. And you know that silly dog still climbs in my Donald's lap every single day to give him a kiss when he gets home from work.
I thank God every single day that I was lucky enough to bump into Donald. He really is my soul mate and I'm very proud of the man he is and goodness for his fellow man he displays. It's a quiet moment in my house right now. The puppies and cats are all sleeping as is my Donald. These are the moments I take to thank God for the blessings in my life of which Donald is the greatest. That silly laugh on his face in that photo is my Donald. It is who is he is. He is an amazing man and he is my hero.
