Did you know that Property Taxes can be reassessed?

If you bought your home in the past three years this might not apply to you.  On the other hand, if you bought your home previous this time frame, you might want to make sure that you are not paying too much in taxes. If your property’s assessed value is higher than what the property is actually worth today, then you may be eligible for a reduction of your property taxes.

For Los Angeles County Go to the following website:    http://www.assessor.lacounty.gov on the left side of the page go to FORMS and click on ASSESSMENT, then go to 2011 Decline-in-value Review Application and click on RP-87-Fill In Print & Mail. Just fill out the form and mail it in.

For Ventura Count Go to the following website http://www.assessor.countyofventura.org  :at the top of the page go to Quick Form Links and click Decline In Value Reassessment. Just fill out the form and mail it in.

I would encourage all of you to at least check it out, you might be pleasantly surprised that your tax obligation might be less than what you expected.

Hi, Endre -- while in the Los Angeles County tax assessor will re-assess some properties, the homeowner can take a more pro-active role -- your post may spur some local homeowners to contact you for the relatively easy methods to achieve some possible cost savings without spending any money.   This Prop. 8 is far less controversial, right?

I advise all of my buyers to do this once they close on the home.

Endre, this option is also available in my County. All you have to do is prove your property value went down.

Yes to your post. They are quick to raise taxes when things are thriving. When they are not thriving, they are no where to be found..mmm. Yes, lower those taxes and while you are at it, your insurance too. the cost to replace/repair a structure is considerably low now a days and that should lower the premiums...good post

Endre, this is certainly valuable information for homeowners. Properties in our area are reassessed every year and home owners have an opportunity to file a review once the proposed tax bill comes out.

In Texas there are windows of time in which a homeowner can protest the assessment on their home.  Property values are not assessed annually in most counties, so at times the actual value can drop beneath the tax assessment.

Roger,  I tend to agree with you, best thing to do is check with your local Tax Assessors Office

Michael,  I so agree with you!

Kathy, in California, when you buy a property the Tax will automatically be based on the New Purchase Price. I was recommending it to those who bought at the height of the market and now their property might be worth less, hence they need to check out their True Tax Obligations!

Silvia that is interesting that your area actually makes the home owners aware of this option!

Lately that has been the case in my market Kate, hence my post to help the home owners who are not aware of this option to them!

Will everyone can use some savings:)
