Sometimes I just have to scratch my head in amazement.
My buyer client closed on a home last Friday. We gave the sellers one week in the home before a rent-back situation would kick in. The former owner and I met this afternoon so I could pick-up the rent-back check. since he's opting to do a rent-back, which we have already negotiated.
While there, he pointed to the two wrought-iron planters that are affixed/attached outside two of the front windows.
He said, and I'm not making this up, he would be taking them with him, but he'd be happy to leave them if my client wanted to buy them. "Ask her if she would like to buy them" he requested of me. He said he paid $600 for them.
Hmmmmmmm . . . she ALREADY BOUGHT THEM!! They conveyed when escrow closed a week ago!
And here's the clincher -- he's a real estate agent!! He sold his own property and told me that he's only keeping his license active just to sell the place. GOOD! Now he can DE-ACTIVATE it because he's a lousy real estate agent.
He's mentioning this to me AFTER the deal is done. They're bolted to the siding on the exterior and removing them would cause damage -- as in, leave holes in the exterior siding.
I could not believe his "ask her if she would like to buy them" statement. SHE ALREADY HAS. We aren't negotiating anything . . . all I did was drop by to pick up a rent-back check.
What an idiot!!

All I can say is Realtors do some strange things sometimes!
OMG, this is so funny ( but sort of sad at the same time). You're right, it is good that he is deactivating his license.
Carla, On the positive side, at least you found out BEFORE your buyer moved in and found big holes in the siding. File this under the "Seriously, what are they thinking" category.
OMG, Carla, is he losing it or what? Did he finally realize what he was saying?
Love the line...now he can deactivate it because he's a lousy agent. You are my sister from another mother.
What a crazy world you folks work in!!! Even I know that once a house is sold, it's sold and no further negotiations can take place. The fact that these planters are bolted.... they belong to the home, unless it was disclosed ahead of time. Wow....
Hi PV -- yes, a security deposit was taken at escrow !!
Hey Charles . . . I don't know why he waited until AFTER the deal close before he tells us about the EXCLUSION {rolling eyes}
Hi Wayne -- absolutely
Hey Jeanne & Ralph . . . dopey is right!
Hi Kathy -- I am still scratching my head
Hey Frank . . . and the few screws in his head are loose!!
Hi Sharon -- for sure
Hey Debbie . . . I hope he does it soon!
Hi BLiz -- yes, this one is in the file
Hey Toni -- the thing that's most annoying is that the deal is DONE. We negotiated and came to terms a while ago. There was no mention of exclusions.
Hi Chris Ann . . . this one makes me want to cry MOMMA for sure!
Hey Peggy -- to discuss these things a week after escrow closes is annoying and to try to negotiate a sale on top of it ........ grrrrrrrrrr
Carla, can't believe he's such a buffoon. Glad to hear he's leaving the ranks of Real Estate. No loss, that's for sure.
Carla, well now Mr. Realtor (soon to be exRealtor) what is wrong with you.. a slap on the head might wake him :)
Ummm, you did apprise him of his stupidity right?! Don't want him taking them and then having to pay for damages. You are only protecting him from himself.
What a dud!
Carla - Exactly why I'm against sellers staying in the property after closing.
Carla I could accept a seller saying this but not from someone who is a Realtor. We do encounter lots of crazy stuff.

Ask for more possession hold back so he'll leave the front door & lord knows what else. I guess it doesn't matter if anything is attached or not to this guy. One good thing, he'll be out of the business after this closing.
@Christine . . . I wasn't negotiating anything at that point, so the conversation was ridiculous to me. He never put this item as an "exemption" to the sale and he wants to claim it's like a mirror hanging in the hallway. I told him he better not damage the siding and then said "I'm hanging up now," which I did.
Great news is that he is "getting out of Real Estate". That is so fine, wish he would take the rest of his incompetant contemporaries with him.....
That is just too funny, but you nailed it correctly...what an idiot!
