This past year I had the opportunity to be involved with a short sale that was a challenge (multiple lenders, challenging property due to value coming from more than the house) and a very emotionally tough situation (lets just say much more than losing a job or simply not being able to pay a mortgage).
We got this particular home sold and i have stayed in touch with the sellers ~ who after all of the trauma in their lives and living through the ups and downs of doing a short sale ~ were ready to start on a clean slate. They had moved for work related reasons and had diligently been looking for a rental property knowing it would be a while before they would qualify for a mortgage.
Today I received one of those emails that makes me grab a tissue. I had an email from these sellers giving me an update on themselves, life, work, etc. They live in a very small town where rentals are hard to come by. They had found a home they absolutely loved but could not buy due to the short sale. As she wrote, "I cried for two days," when we could not make something work yet knew I had to just keep looking. A phone call changed of all that when a former client called saying you helped me when we had serious financial difficulties to get through (which they did) and I want to pay it back to you. Her response, "I cried for two more days. These were different tears".
The gift I receive from helping customers with a short sale is closure for them, a successful sale and more importantly sometimes the gift of getting closure. Sometimes the gift is a relationship where we can keep in touch and they let me know that life is starting to get back on track. This, as an American Express ad would say, is priceless.
