There Are No Finish Lines In This Business

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Bayou Properties

Home for sale in Pineville Louisiana

One of the things I enjoyed about teaching was the sense of schedule. Syllabus the first night, lecture for a while, presentations, then a final exam. A nice hand shake from the student (or a bag of burning dog poop), and the semester was over. Before long a new crop of students would come along and the cycle would begin anew.

Real estate practice is nothing like this. Unless you only plan on doing one transaction at a time (not good for the budget), real estate is more of a treadmill. As one deal is nearing closing, others are spread all over the map. I've went to closing, done an initial buyer consultation, and a home inspection all in the same day! Talk about needing a day planner.

For me such maddness is one of the benefits of our field. I have NEVER had a boring day in real estate. Plenty of bad ones, but none were dull. And how many American works can make that claim? Seize the day!

You hit the nail on the head!   There are bad days in real estate, great days in real estate, and it is NEVER boring!   I went from being an accountant to teaching school and loved the feeling of completing a year and starting over with a new batch of kids..but real estate is a whole other type of satisfaction.. helping families find homes or sell homes is a great feeling!

Interesting that you put it like this, Doug.  It's just one of the reason I like being a Realtor® so much more than any of my previous jobs.  It's on going and always a challenge.

Having the proper mindset and understanding that each deal is on its own timeline and that you constantly have to be prospecting for new business, great advice and perspective.
