Almost everyone but me is done with their 2006 retrospectives. I will use the Julian calendar as my excuse. I celebrated Christmas on January 7th, and I’ve got until January 14th to greet the New Year by my accounts. I was also busy with the ActiveRain retrospective, so I didn’t get around to doing this on my own blog. Hey, I am sticking with this calendar thing though. I’ll never be late for anything again.

miOaklandCounty has been around since March of 2005, but I have to say that I really feel like it was totally reborn in the second half of 2006. I left blogspot.com and became the mistress of my own domain. Even though I have struggled with Wordpress, I’ve felt like my blog ‘grew up’ this year. I began to have a bit of a sense of direction and purpose. Heck, someone even bothered to hack my site, so I must be doing something right.

To read more about what has been going on at miOaklandCounty read on here

I also halfheartedly tried to start a meme, but it fizzled.  So if anyone would like to do a recap of their personal favorites from their own blog from 2006 (AR or 'other blog'), consider yourself tagged. You are welcome to leave a link to your recap post in the comments here and I will stop by to take a look.  I think it's kind of interesting to see an author's personal favorites.

Thanks for the WP Link.

I will come back and link... It will not be the new WordPress Blog... I paid for the hosting on New Years Eve... but signed on on the 1st day of 2007.. not sure I had my first entry up even that day... but I could figure out the blogroll so got right on that... I will do Discover Columbus (which at the time was known as Columbus Best Blog..) I have not really blogged much here... so I will do my RT Blog... soon.

By the way, NEVER CHANGE the structure of your permalinks.  I just did that for SEO purposes.  But now everyone who has ever linked back to one of my articles is going to get a dead link.  Crap!

Is being hacked the ultimate compliment for a blogger?  How easy was it to get the hacker's harm undone Maureen?

I am sooooo new to all this.  permalinks?  SEO?  shoot, I'm still trying to retain EDO and Financing Contingency. =)  I'm inspired.  Thanks!

You wrote:"By the way, NEVER CHANGE the structure of your permalinks.  I just did that for SEO purposes.  But now everyone who has ever linked back to one of my articles is going to get a dead link.  Crap! "

How did you change them?  On which blog did you change them?  What do you mean?  I think one of the bloggers on RTBlogs continually fiddles with her categories and has messed up her SEO because it messes up the permalink.

I am off to peruse your permalinks...

My permalinks are down in that article again.  I switched back.  But I had already edited that whole article with the new and now dead structure...

You change them in the options page of your dashboard.  Dave smith, from the link above, suggested a great structure using categories as part of the permalink.  I did not think that it would change my past permalinks, but it does.  I don't know if there is a way just to change them going forward.  I am also trying to categorize 133 posts from my old blog because that will help with seo too. Also, DO install that sitemap thing that Dave listed.  Google loves sitemaps and that program works.  I struggled with another.

Maggie.  I don't know if it is the ultimate compliment.  I know Kristal Kraft has been hacked and raincity guide has been hacked.  I was pretty freaked out when I clicked on my blog and landed on a blank screen with a message about aliens.

Permalink I chose

Date and name based
» http://columbusbestblog.com/2007/01/13/sample-post/

Which makes a permalink:
http://columbusbestblog.com/2007/01/12/discount-real-estate-brokers-face-new-hurdle/

Are you doing categories with the last choice on the option page?

Custom structure:

We need a WP group on AR IMHO.

I AGREE.  I just dropped out of a lot of groups last night because I wasn't visiting them all.  I will go get the custom thing for you.  You should use it.

    Jonathan,

If you want to make your permalinks even more SEO based then do two things. Name your Categories using keywords. Second change your permatlinks to a custom setting /%category%/%postname%/ This will put the keywords for the category then the title keywords in the URL.

You can read about it on Real Estate Blog Lab post on permalinks.

Thanks MF: OK I did 2006 in Review for Columbus Best Blog... the original Columbus Best Blog which is now named Discover Columbus... but I could not distill it down to less than 11 links... some of which I do not really like but they really define Columbus Best Blog during 2006

Maureen your outside blog is very very cool. I think all that hard work paid off. As for me, I don't have enough blog posts for this year to pick but I will enjoy reading those of everyone else!  My personal favorite of yours was the post on Jack White's house.

Carole, you have got plenty.  You could do you AR blog or combine both.  You had a very good blogging year.  But thanks for the compliment.
