How does one determine which posts to make public and which ones should be for members only?  I continually read posts that are to members only by rainmakers, and if I had written them, they would have been "public."  I think many agents are missing the opportunity to use these posts to market themselves as “marketers.”  Yes, we are in the business of marketing!!!  We are marketing agents!!

The public needs to be educated about our marketing and the importance of this task.  There was a post written this morning that was very powerful about the importance of photos when we market online.  The examples were magnificent, and the post was very well written.  I was very disappointed to see it posted to members only.

If I were a potential seller, I’d want to have that information before I started my search for a listing agent.  I would use that information about marketing to compare the methods used by those agents who would be interviewing for my listing.  I’d call you to interview because you know how to market.

Unless that type of informative post is made public, how will potential clients realize the importance of this marketing detail?  We market for a living.  Many agents think they sell for a living.  They don’t.  They market, and if they are not marketing properly, they won’t be making a good living.

Share this information with the public.  It’s important to them and it’s important to other real estate agents.  Few real estate agents will follow your lead.  It’s too much work.  Most will continue at their comfortable pace, but they’ll know who the real competition is, won’t they!!!

Belinda.... if the public is not aware of some of these situations, they may think they are normal happenings..... you're not naming offices or names of agents....they're scenarios....

I think many people are afraid to have people read some of their experiences. I've only posted a handful in my many years of blogging as members only. I want the public to learn from my stories and know that I can handle any situation so they'll contact me to help them with their purchase or sale.

Donna..... the same here and I've only been blogging for three years.....but it's common sense to want all potential sellers to know what we have experienced; how we market; what we know that will help them; and many more topics....

Barbara, thank you. I don't know how many times I have thought this. I agree, we are not salesmen, we are marketers. I tell my sellers this all the time. You can't sell a home if you never get a buyer through the door.

I see that as well. If you are posting listings why make them members only? Or marketing reports? Some are not rainmakers I suspect.

Erica.... all of those posts should be public....but information about marketing should be public too.... potential sellers would appreciate those posts and would be looking for an agent who markets properly....

Congrats on the feature Barbara.  Realtors have been labled as salespeople for years and we are so much more than that.  Love that reinforcement in your post.  Thank you!!!!

True Barbara: we are marketers!

We provide a huge service to buyers and sellers, but above all we are truly selling our expertise in selling a very expensive product.

Great points. And...also, even if we aren't necessarily "marketing" with a post, if it's public, it gets indexed by Google and increases author trust. The more productive we are in the eyes of Google, the better.

Barbara - I agree. Very few of my posts are members' only post, and if they are, it's for good reason.

Barbara, my rants are Members Only, or if it's information targeted for us only. Otherwise, it's Public all the way. Yes, they want to see the real us and the real marketing!

Anything that educates the public about the business of selling real estate should be public. Rants, or posts that are critical of another agent, should not be public. Great advice, Barbara!

Hi Barbara.  Your last sentence was so accurate.  Their competition is the ones who keep learning and adapting.

Excellent post Barbara, most of us blog for business and not making good info public defeats that purpose.  Congrats on the well deserved feature.

Good Morning Barabara, fantastic topic, I think bloggers need to utilize the greatest promotion tool of all by making it public so people can learn or be educated by their writing.  Have a great day.
